A Russian Boxer Checked On Turkish Foe After Beating Him For UBO World Title. Then A Crowd Of 'About 80' Turned The Scene Into Absolute Chaos

It got ugly real quick.

A post-fight scene that began with sportsmanship quickly spiraled into chaos after a Russian boxer, Sergei Gorokhov, defeated Turkish Emirhan Kalkan to claim the UBO world title. Immediately after the final bell, the Russian fighter approached his beaten rival and checked on him inside the ring. However, a slight provocation set off a chain of events that ended in a huge brawl. This is usually what happens when frustration boils over, as seen in the Angels-Braves brawl.

According to TalkSport and IBTimes, the victory itself had concluded a tightly contested bout, with both fighters enduring heavy exchanges before the result was decided in favor of the Russian. As Gorokhov was checking Kalkan after his celebration, somebody from the team pushed him, causing the Russian coach to retaliate. From there, all hell broke loose as the angry Turkish crowd joined in and entered the ring.

The situation escalated rapidly as individuals breached security and entered the fighting area.  Security attempted to intervene, but the scale of the intrusion made containment difficult. Chairs started flying and fans threw punches. “Who saw the broadcast? There were probably about 80 people there attacking us,” Gorokhov recalled in a video he posted via Instagram story.

Gorokhov Was Sent To The Hospital

According to the 24-year-old fighter, the chaos ultimately forced him to seek medical help in a hospital in Turkey. He revealed to what extent they were affected. “Hello everyone. We’re currently in a hospital in Turkey,” he said in his language. “Ismail [trainer] has suffered a head injury and is having an MRI scan right now. I’ve come through it the least badly. The gloves helped protect me.”

Gorokhov secured the victory via TKO, handing Kalkan’s first loss in the process. The Russian boxer celebrated the win with visible emotion, sprinting across the ring before dropping to kiss the canvas. He then made his way to his corner, where he embraced his team.  However, it seems that it rubbed the other team and the home crowd the wrong way.

“They got in the ring and beat us up after our brilliant victory in the second round, where we knocked this fighter out twice. But the Turks behaved very badly,” Gorokhov said. “But thank God, everyone is alive. That’s the sort of brawl that happened, a tough one. We’ve got a police escort now; we’ll head straight from the hotel to our rooms.”

Meanwhile, Kalkan shared his side of the story. “I’m very sorry about what happened, I wish it hadn’t occurred….but you know, in a situation like that, what business did the Russian opponent’s coach have coming to our corner? He comes running, makes a move like that. I mean, in environments like this, a single spark can ignite the whole thing into flames,” he said in his statement translated into English.

Ultimately, the fight was called off. No winner was announced. But sanctions such as fines and suspensions were anticipated, given the scale of the incident. Kalkan’s unbeaten mark stood at 7-0. Recently, a brawl also broke out in an NBA playoff game. For the fans, they were left with a moment they will never forget, marked by flying chairs and punches.
