2K Announces Kurt Angle as WWE 2K18 Pre-Order Bonus

2K has announced the decorated Olympian, WWE Hall of Famer and current Raw General Manager, Kurt Angle, will return to WWE in-ring action for the first time in more than a decade in WWE 2K18.

Fans can watch the official pre-order bonus trailer on Raw, airing live on USA Network at 8:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. CT on Monday, July 10. For more information on all pre-order options, check out this news post.

Best known for his remarkable in-ring accomplishments spanning nearly two decades, as well as his gold medal win in freestyle wrestling at the 1996 Summer Olympic Games, Angle will appear in WWE 2K18 through two playable characters representing key milestones in his career: his WWE “American Hero” persona, as well as his ECW® “Wrestling Machine” persona. The playable characters will be available as bonus content for those who pre-order the game at participating retailers.

“I was thrilled to return to WWE earlier this year, be honored as a WWE Hall of Fame inductee and find a new home with the best in the business every Monday night as the Raw General Manager,” said Kurt Angle. “And now, I get to follow in the footsteps of many incredible names, like Bill Goldberg, Sting, Ultimate Warrior and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and be featured as the WWE 2K18 pre-order character.”

“Kurt Angle has been the most fan-requested Superstar in the WWE 2K franchise for some time now, so it’s a pleasure to celebrate his popularity and incredible career through this year’s WWE 2K18 pre-order offer,” said Chris Snyder, Vice President of Marketing at 2K. “His WWE and amateur wrestling achievements are also a perfect fit to help carry the torch for this year’s ‘Be Like No One’ worldwide marketing campaign. There’s no question Kurt succeeds on his own terms in everything he does.”

  1. Eh, not enough to pre-order for me. I need to see big improvement to get Day 1. That or the collectors edition blows me away.

Has the preorder bonus fighter come back the last few years or am I just thinking this cause Goldberg was last year?
I'm not sure about this game anymore. The first 2 years I went deluxe. The past year I went regular with a preorder and bought NO dlc. I might skip this year or get it on Black Friday for $30. It was a roster update (and an outdated one at that) with a few more player scans and a few more gameplay tweaks.
I believe the last few years the pre-order bonus character eventually became available as DLC. Months down the line. Definitely for Warrior, Biker Undertaker, Sting, and Goldberg. Don't remember if Terminator ever did.

He did. There hasn't been any pre order offers that weren't available eventually for everyone.

Looking ahead, who's the pre-order next year? I'm thinking Hogan, seems like they're starting to run out of people for it to be. Maybe by then they've patched things up enough with CM Punk or Batista?

Off the top of my head, I would agree that Hogan is a safe bet for next year. Beyond that it depends on if they want to push Showcase again and we'll get a glimpse of that with Angle. If they're doing showcases again for the pre-order guys then I can see sticking with the legend format and going with Edge at some point. Bret Hart, HBK, Eddie Guerrero could be an option at some point, they could always push the 3 faces of Foley when they want. Long shot could see Chyna eventually getting her due, perhaps Trish or Lita. If his wife ever comes around Owen Hart most certainly would get the pre-order treatment. Whenever he officially retires Triple H likely.

The problem I see with those guys as pre-order bonuses is that they've already been in the game for years. Hard to get people fired up for someone who they've been able to play as for the last five years.
The other pre-orders were either new or hadn't been in the game for awhile in the case of Angle. Hogan works because he's been out for years at this point.
The hook on those would be the different versions though. Beyond that, it wouldn't surprise me for them to take someone out of an iteration to bring them back.
But the main lure they would use would be playing as different versions because there really isn't some new character or person that's been missing for a while that could be used as a pre-order bonus left outside of Chyna and Owen. So you would have to do something like making current Triple H available to everybody on the disc from day one, but make the pre-order bonus 2000 Triple H or 2006 Triple H. The Hardy's are available from start, but the pre-order bonus is unlocking the Team Xtreme versions of Matt, Jeff and Lita. That's really the only course left for pre-order bonuses because Punk isn't walking through that door anytime soon.

I'm thinking Hogan. Batista is in 2k18 on the Cena Nuff mode or whatever. As for Punk? I'd welcome him but not likely.
They'll probably get AJ Lee back in the series before CM Punk.
