It's been a great weekend, can't for the next one. Reading around I see people talking about the media picking Florida. If you're thin skinned, I'd just avoid the media altogether then because they've been picking Florida to beat us for the past few weeks. It's not been subtle either. I love it. This team has responded greatly to being the underdog. Like Coach Bryant said in another thread, it was the exact same way in '92. According to the media back then, Miami and their flashy, high point scoring would have no issue dismantling the Tide.

We'll see what happens this time around, but you have to know, the average person is an idiot. Flashy athletics and points with little defense impresses the average person, while the type of ball we play appeals to purists and people who can appreciate sound defense and a tough running game. It happens in most sports (Take a Phoenix vs Detroit or San Antonio comparison). People that really know the game know that Alabama has more than a small chance to not only win, but do it in dominating fashion.

What I am getting at is, don't let articles that are written by and aimed to cater to idiots get to you.

Well it's another Monday after another solid weekend. I must say, the latter half of 2008 has been pretty decent. I got to see history being made in the presidential election with the election of the first "openly" biracial prez. Britney Spears is starting to look good again, and the Tide just keeps on rolling.

Also, I got my first OS Vets 2K league game in Saturday night with fellow OSer and talented artist Bornindamecca. The good feelings I had with digital AI were founded as he led the Pistons with 32 points and also adding 5 assists, 3 rebounds and a steal. Unfortunately though, Rip Hamilton got hurt early in the 1st quarter and it looks like he'll be out for the year . Still, Bornindamecca and his Spurs played great and it was a lot of fun. The best part of the night: Me and Born agreeing to take a "tv timeout" to watch Beyonce work and wiggle on Saturday Night Live . Now that's a true sim experience.

Back to my Bama boys, these guys have to be the most disrespected #1 team in like, ever. All they do is win their games and all people can do is rave about flashy offenses elsewhere. Flashy is fine if you can get it, but Bama doesn't have the big playmakers like Florida, or the dynamic offensive schemes like Texas Tech. We do what we do by playing a fundamentally solid game. We establish our ground game that opens up short to medium pass yardage. We play aggressive defense and force mistakes. All we do is win.

It does remind me of another time though. Back in 1992, Alaama was doing the same thing. They weren't flashy, but they won. Derrick Lassic gave us solid yardage pm the ground, like Glen Coffee is doing now. That team was led by solid QB who limited mistakes in Jay Barker, just like John Parker Wilson today. Also, there were flashier teams like Florida St. and Miami who the media gave preference to because of said flashiness, similar to the Texas Tech's and Florida's today. Well, all Alabama did that year was take it to that much hyped Miami offense in the Sugar Bowl, beating them 34-13. I am not saying that's what will happen this year, but I will say I am expecting a similar finish.

Well enough about that, things will sort themseves out. I'm just glad of the job Coach Saban is doing in just his second year. Now's not a good time to be a Bama hater, or maybe it is since we'll be giving you plenty to hate on.

A couple of years ago I changed my sig, declaring it would be the last time I would do so until the Alabama Crimson Tide won a championship or the world ended, whichever came first. I am so hoping that the rapture is held off for at least 3 more weeks because right now the Tide are the SEC West champs, ranked number one in the country and primed to bring home their first outright SEC chip in 9 years. Of course, they have to go through a very tough Florida team to claim it. Of course they also still have games against Mississippi State and arch rival Auburn before they can actually focus on it. No one said the road would be easy, but I'm just glad they're on it again.

Last week, Joe Dumars delivered on his promise of a shakeup to the Pistons roster by trading away the foundation of the team in Chauncey Billups. Billups along with Antonio McDyess was sent to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for the one and only Allen Iverson. The jury is still out on how this trade will improve (or not) the real life Pistons, but it works out great for me in my OS Vets 2K league. As much as I love the former Mr. Big Shot, playing Iverson is so much more fun. He's so little and so deadly. He's like a little basketball ninja, one second he's there, the next he's gone. Before you know it, 2 points are on the scoreboard and you're left on the floor wondering what the hell just happened. Should be a fun season.

I'm still off the NFL bandwagon for now, and I can't lie, I believe Madden is a big part of the reason. A couple of years ago when I first got my 360, I purchased Madden 06' and was so underwhlemed I swore off it. I used to be a huge Maddenite, I loved the game since 92 and was a big fan all the way up to the PS2. But the leap to the current generation hasn't gone too well with Madden, or Live either for that matter (I was probably a bigger Live Fanboy than I was Madden). Since my oath, I've become less interested in even playnig the game, and also the NFL as a whole. I will admit though, this year was a pretty solid effort, but I think I am waiting to be wowed, so I rented for a few days and that was that. I've also yet to watch a complete NFL game for the first time in what has to be over 15 years.

Still, was a pretty good weekend. Got some 2K games in with qality opponents, my Tide beat the LSU Tigers to remain atop the polls at #1 (to the chagrin of the Bama/SEC haters which is always a plus) and got to play Gears of War 2. Speaking of Gears, my gamertag is Depotboy, hit me up if you want to get some multiplayer in, or even some campaign work.
