Kotaku has the scoop.

"A tipster taking a marketing survey was asked to judge four potential covers for next year's MLB 2K10. The Tampa Bay Rays' third baseman Evan Longoria is on all of them.

In that image you can see the four different designs survey takers were asked to consider. All have the 2K Sports 10th Anniversary branding which has graced the boxes of NHL 2K10 and NBA 2K10."

It has taken six seasons, but the New York Yankees are finally back in the World Series. It seemed just as inevitable that Derek Jeter finally has another game with his name splattered all over it, Derek Jeter Real Baseball.

I also just want to get this out of the way before we go any farther into this review: If you do not like Derek Jeter, Derek Jeter Real Baseball may not be the game for you. Just trust me, unless you are a glutton for punishment.

Developed and released by Gameloft, Derek Jeter Real Baseball is one part baseball sim and one part holy relic to the long-time captain of the Yankees. What Derek Jeter Real Baseball is not is a great game, but it also is not a terrible game.

For a $5 download on the iTunes App Store, you will get a baseball game with some annoying flaws. However, during those moments when there is nothing else to do, you will find that Derek Jeter Real Baseball is an adequate game to turn to when you want to cure bouts of boredom.

I have been thinking a great deal about speed in sports as of late, and no I am not trying to start a new drugs in sports controversy. The fact of the matter is that I have always been fascinated by the impact of team and individual speed in sports. Urban Meyer has developed the Florida Gators to be the fastest team in the nation, and by doing so he has made the Gators the best and most intimidating team to match up against. Often times it is more daunting to face a team full of jackrabbits than it is to face a team full of grizzly bears. Speed can embarrass people like few other attributes can.

A couple recent events have also renewed my interest in this topic -- the major event being Rickey Henderson’s induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. For those of us who witnessed Rickey in his prime, we can speak first hand about the impact he had on every game he was a part of. He was a disruption like no other. Not only did he steal as many as 130 bases a season, but he messed with every pitcher’s head who was unfortunate enough to be matched up against him. Honestly, how could a pitcher possibly concentrate on the hitter in the batter’s box with Rickey on base?

Now that the MLB trade deadline has passed -- though the wheeling and dealing probably isn't over yet -- it's time to take a look at some of the more notable trades that were made around the league. With fewer than two months left in the regular season, I will be focusing mainly on the playoff impact of these trades, while also discussing each player’s potential impact for franchise mode players in MLB 09: The Show.

If you have not started a franchise in the game yet, now would be the best time to attempt to make a playoff push with your favorite squad. I have picked five of the most important players who swapped jerseys at the trade deadline, and also broken down the potential impact of each player for his new team.

ON DECK: AMERICAN LEAGUE ALL-STAR PITCHER EDWIN
JACKSON VS. ARMY SPECIALIST IN KUWAIT IN ONLINE VIDEOGAME
SHOWDOWN OF PLAYSTATION3'S MLB O9: THE SHOW

Army Specialist Danielle Pisack (Selden, NY) was treated to a special affair at her home base in Camp Virginia, Kuwait, as she had the opportunity to meet All-Star Pitcher Edwin Jackson via webcam and battle the Detroit Tigers' starting pitcher in a friendly game of MLB 09: The Show. To add to the excitement, Pisack's family was flown in to St. Louis to watch her take on Jackson and to catch up with their daughter via webcam. The online showdown and family reunion took place at the PlayStation Patrol truck during the 2009 MLB All-Star FanFest in St. Louis yesterday, July 13.

Though Jackson is the All-Star of the event, he played second fiddle to Pisack , who although thousands of miles away, actually had the home field advantage with 20 members of the Missouri National Guard at the event cheering her on. Select members of the Missouri National Guard had the opportunity to battle it out with each other, as well as against FanFest attendees in a two-inning game of MLB 09 The Show for tickets to the Home Run Derby and the All-Star game. The top troop (Richy Kohler) also won an opportunity to go head-to-head with Jackson for bragging rights.

The event was sponsored by PlayStation in partnership with the Pro Vs. GIJoe organization. For more information on the Pro Vs. GIJoe organization, please log onto http://www.prosvsgijoes.org/.

It has now been four months since MLB 09: The Show was released. When the game was released, it received rave reviews from a number of different sources and still is generating passionate discussions on forums across the Internet.

But now that consumers have been able to reflect on "The Most Realistic Baseball Game Ever," what are some aspects of the game that are already polished and excellent, and what are some aspects that still need to be worked on for next year?

To begin with, MLB 09: The Show is still the best baseball game on the market. The few positives I will mention in this article only scratch the surface of what this game offers to both hardcore and casual fans of the sport, and the nuances that are only discovered after playing scores of games really set it apart from other baseball games available.

Quote:
"MLB 09 THE SHOW, the popular baseball videogame for the PS3, was used to simulate the 2009 MLB All-Star Game and predicts the National League will win the title for the NL's 42nd victory since 1933. This ends a streak where the American League has won the past 12 All-Star Games (tie in 2002). Tim Lincecum threw two scoreless innings including four strikeouts, and collected one hit, on his way to earning MVP honors. The day included a number of spectacular plays including a towering solo homerun from Mark Teixeira of the Yankees in the 4th inning, and a key play in the 7th where the Jays’ Aaron Hill raced for home on a bloop single from Ichiro but could not beat a perfect throw from Ryan Braun. A combined bullpen effort of four strikeouts from the Padres’ Heath Bell and the Mets’ Francisco Rodriguez helped seal the win for the NL."
