Let me start this by saying that Lebron James doesn't need someone like me to defend him or any choices that he has made. HE IS A GROWN AZZ MAN!
Now my thoughts on this situation are simply this, Lebron was damned if he did and damned if he didn't. Simply b/c no matter where Lebron went someone was not going to be happy. Signs where pointing to an inevitable change at the end of the CLE -BOS series this year when a question was asked to KG in reference to what advice would you give Lebron about the upcoming offseason and he responded that just looking over his own career and what has happened to him in the past that he wished that everything that happened to him (going to Boston) could have happened years earlier. Now let's flashback through KG's career. Remember when KG couldn't win a series in the playoffs for the first seven years of his career and he never complained he always was the " company man holding the company line " the t-wolves kept promising to get him some help and they finally did with Latrell Sprewell and Sam Cassell. He only had those guys for 2 years with the first year losing the lakers in the conf. finals and then the wheels fell off the next. Then the organization said well we did what we could and they seemed to not even care about giving their most valued asset what he wanted the most not money but a championship. A very loyal and proud man was reduced to do something totally out of his character and that was to finally ask for a trade. And now the rest is history. The point is Lebron had the same choice to make stay with who he really want to be with or take an opportunity to get something that I wanted my whole life. So he choose the latter.
Now on the flipside of the subject there are instances where both sides failed each other in the Lebron - Cavs marriage. and I am so tired of people saying that Lebron didn't get any help from the team b/c that would be a huge slap in the face to the guys that they did bring in. When they wanted a younger healthier PG they went and got Mo Williams they needed a shooter they went and got Anthony Parker. The problem was that they was always a year behind where they needed to be. For example when they needed a physical big man to fight with D. Howard they had B. Wallace who admirable but just to short and not well used. They went and got Shaq in the following offseason. But that was not the biggest mistake in the marriage. The biggest mistake in the marriage b/t them was the coaching situation. Say what you want about them both Lebron and CLE, but if they had of gotten rid of Mike Brown just a couple of years earlier I know that they would have won at least one championship with the players they had. Lebron needed a dominant personality to coach him and most importantly a REAL Basketball offense to run. The names that are being toss out like Kobe, MJ, Bird, Shaq the common denominator is coaching. Over the last 20 years name a team that won a Championship with a terrible coach. Mike Brown was the equivalent of a middle school PE coach tossing the basketball to the kids and saying go play... make something happen. Yes they did get B. Scott to coach but again they were a year too late.
Dan Gilbert to me looks as bad if not worse than Lebron b/c if you are the owner of a major sports franchise and prominent businessman you should not act like a 10 year old school girl and cry and fuss then sell something at price to reflect the birthday of Benedict Arnold. ( C'mon man Seriously) but I can understand where he is coming from b/c his most valuable asset left him and he didn't get any compensation out of the deal for down the road.
Say what you want about the situation but my point is that get off his back b/c he made a choice about HIS future. We as regulars talk about how people are so greedy and complain about how everything is about dollars and cents but he didn't do that. In fact as much as I didn't like the forum that he made his announcement at least all of the proceeds from the show went to five different Boys and Girls Clubs across the country. At least think about that.
