The month of August has not been too easy. The Yankees have lost 7 games this month already. All of my hitters were in slumps. I couldn't get anything going. But today against the Detroit Tigers I had a really emotional comeback victory. Andy Petite vs Dontrell Willis. On paper a mismatch, but that's why they play the game. For the first five innings each team could only muster 1 run apiece, but in the 6th inning the Tigers broke it open with a 2 run rbi by Miguel Cabrera and in the 7th Carlos Guillen hit a sac fly to make the game 4-1. I brought in Alfredo Aceves , and he pitched three strong inning the 7th,8th, and 9th. My bats unfortunately stayed silent through the 7th and 8th innings. In the bottom of the ninth down by 3, the first batter Alex Rodriguez flew out, the second batter Robinson Cano was walked, the third batter Jorge Pasada got a base hit keeping the inning alive and this set the stage for Curtis Granderson's at bat. He took the first pitch for a ball, then he promptly deposited the second pitch into the right centerfield bleachers. It was bomb, a No DOUBTER. His biggest hit of the season. Next up was Nick Swisher. He too took the first pitch for a ball, and he deposited his second pitch into the left centerfield bleachers. Swisher hit a walk-off home run. My 7,8 batters went back to back. Their was much joy in the Ronin Household, Mrs Ronin witnessed the big comeback. When you win like this you should take the rest of the day off.
