TopSpin 2K25 Game Modes, Roster, Gameplay, and More

TopSpin 2K25 Roger Federer

The first big drop of TopSpin 2K25 news has hit, and so we wanted to group a lot of the “need to know” info in one spot and keep this updated as we learn more in the weeks ahead. TopSpin 2K25 is set to launch on April 26 (early access on April 23) on just about every console other than the Nintendo Switch (it will release on PC), so this release is right around the corner.

Roster & Venues

As of now, 2K has not given the exact list, they have just said there will be “over” 24 playable pros from the paste and present. Some of the confirmed names are:

  • Men: Roger Federer, John McEnroe, Andre Agassi, Frances Tiafoe, Carlos Alcaraz
  • Women: Serena Williams, Iga Świątek, Coco Gauff

The big questions here are can we create more players for the game itself and put them in career mode, and what other big names are still to be unveiled (if any?). Will they focus on world rankings and prioritize that way or are names like Osaka and Nadal still more important to grab? We’ll know soon enough. We are also getting a PC release, so we may be able to get a bunch of players into the game one way or another post-launch on PC.

On the venues side of things, we’re getting all four majors this time around as Top Spin 4 did not have Wimbledon back when it came out in 2011. This makes sense since it appears the career mode will be about winning the career Grand Slam. Overall, there will be 48 unique courts and 15 real-life venues. You will also have three different times of day to play for the outdoor venues.

Game Modes

As you would expect from a 2K game, the biggest focus appears to be MyCareer. This fuses together to start with the TopSpin Academy, which is the tutorial more or less that will be guided by John McEnroe. Beyond that, 2K is being quiet right now about what the career mode will look like beyond pointing out that you will be going for the career Grand Slam. Again, we hope you can create or bring more pros into the career mode environment so you’re not just battling against the same 10-12 athletes all the time.

As for customizing your pro, I think this will likely take on the form of something like PGA Tour 2K rather than NBA 2K, which means the customization won’t go as wild but you’ll still have a lot here. In addition, 2K has mentioned you will be able to earn new coaches, fittings, and gear that will help with your attributes.

Online play also seems to be a major focus, and you will be able to take your MyPlayer online or use the licensed pros in an online environment as well. We don’t know what you might be fighting for online as of now.

No other major game modes have been mentioned as of now, and I don’t think a “card mode” of sorts would end up making sense as of now since the roster is not large enough.

Lastly, with tennis game you always hope they put in a full way to play out matches. In other words, hopefully we still have the ability to do 5-set matches and all that if we want.

Gameplay Video

The preview event 2K held did allow gameplay capture, and you can find lots of gameplay on YouTube. That said, the best piece of footage we’ve personally found comes from Gamersyde as it shows off the TopSpin Academy tutorial, and then also showcases normal, hard, and very hard difficulty gameplay segments.

While we have not personally played the game, it does appears 2K is taking a lot from Top Spin 4. They were even clear about saying that they went back to Top Spin 4 and tried to bring as much of that gameplay into their new engine as possible to use as a base for TopSpin 2K25.
