WWE 2K17 News Post

WWE 2K17
releases next week, and it looks like the game will have several notable improvements over last year's effort.

With a partially revamped Universe Mode, the game is trying to endear itself to single player users. Our own Fraser Gilbert got some hands-on time with the game and had some takes on how its shaping up from EGX.

But what about you? What is your buying decision on WWE 2K17? Sound off in the comments on what you are doing and vote in our poll as well!

Hard pass for three reasons:

1 - the audio is awful and hasn't improved in years, which will limit my immersion in the single-player experience despite any and all improvements to gameplay mechanics

2 - the game offers little in the way of online modes beyond online exhibition, which will limit my immersion in the multiplayer experience

3 - the game's post-release support model of paid content updates and paywalls between the user and standard functionality in sports games (editing player ratings) is very outdated and insulting to consumers IMO

I'm not buying either until later. The way they do the released DLC as a special edition late makes everything else seem like a cash grab up front. Maybe if they gave more incentive for being a first month buyer I would consider it.

I agree/ Plus I'm not buying anymore wwe games with technology now there is no reason why we can't have 10 superstars in the ring at once for royal rumble and survivor matches

I will not buy the game until 2K decides to put out a game that doesn't have PS3 and maybe even borderline PS2 graphics.

WWE Raw 2 on the xbox had better visuals than this game has.

In addition the pay for extra wrestlers system is terrible.

One last thing is the sound....poor commentary year after year...the ring announcing is awful (can't they just use announcements from a live event?) and the crowds are silent. Also the lack of custom music ruins the game.

Probable pass...

Too many legends removed from last year

Body morphing gone from caw mode

No custom music

Not enough improvements to make it different from last year.

Outdated DLC model of updating.

Current product content massively out of date.

Whole thing is a cynical money grab.

4 steps backwards 2 step forward philosophy to the series is frustrating...

I just paid for the digital deluxe edition on PS4.

-Great roster

- I was a fan of the core gameplay of 2K16 and its been expanded here.

-3 Universe save slots.

- Crowd and backstage fighting.

- Promo Engine looks awesome.

-improved presentation

-improved ladder and table matches.

-improved creation suite.

-improved 3-6 character matches with the rollout feature.

-improved Career and Universe mode

-ability to have up to 4 managers in a match.

-post match breakouts.

I'm excited for the game.

I paid for mine and I'm ok with the purchase. But if next year yet again doesn't have major improvements with universe, commentary and a better story creator I won't buy

i haven't decide to buy this or not. i am taking my time to think about it

Going to pass for now, might buy it down the road on sale. I have a friend that has the game pre-ordered so I'll give it a try at his place to determine if it's worth the purchase.

I bought 2k15 day one and was disappointed. Basically tried to convince myself into liking the game. Bought 2k16 on black Friday, enjoyed the game more but still got bored rather quickly. This game would have to have a noticeable improvement to the overall pace and flow of the gameplay for me to purchase. I hate playing and watching slow moves and animations play out. If I want to watch wrestling I'll turn on the wwe network.

Definitely passing. Til the AKI grappling engine (or something damn near close or better than it) returns, I'm not going to waste my time or money.

I'm going to get it this year. If they don't improve Universe mode more next year then I'll be passing.

wwe 2k18 should be better next year on PS4 Pro and Xbox scorpio but it could be also on Nintendo NX too

ugh, I've already got it pre-ordered but only because this is such a weak gaming year. I sold some stuff to Gamestop last month and the only thing I saw I was even remotely interested in was pre-ordering this game, so I did. I'm not going into it with high expectations. I do like the changes they've made to Universe mode but I'm afraid it's going to be almost if not just as repetitive as it has been in the past. I also don't like the direction the gameplay has went. I really just want a pick up and play, fun, simple, wrestling game. I DON"T want an All-Stars type game where everything is just absolutely ridiculous but I'm tired of the complicated submission systems( and yes I've seen the new 'button mashing' system and I'm not impressed. I am baffled that they can't just go back to the same submission symptoms we had in DOR games or in No Mercy).

All that being said, maybe I'll enjoy it. lol I am really looking forward to setting up my Universe though I expect to be tired of it in just a few months. I really hope the promos they've added have a lot of variety and I hope tag teams will actually form and break up on their own this year.

THIS. If the AKI grappling engine were to return I'd be hyped beyond belief.

PS2 graphics, seriously? Sounds like hate to me.

Yeah, total hyperbole. I have little to no interest in picking up WWE 2K17, but anybody with a set of working eyes and access to YouTube videos of 2K17 can see that it's a gorgeous game.

I'll wait until it hits GWG or PSN+

# 18 bigdipper88 @ 10/06/16 11:28 PM
How come nobody ever mentions WWE Day of Reckoning 1 and 2 as some of the best wrestling games ever. DOR 2 is definitely top 3

# 19 Junior Moe @ 10/06/16 11:41 PM
Definite buy. My son is now a fan of WWE and the games. WWE2k16 was fun for us both. Plus, being an old school fan Goldberg and the Nitro arena seals it. I'm in. Though it'll probably be the last one I get on release day for a while.

# 20 JayStarr @ 10/07/16 12:10 AM
This a buy, promos are huge, a more alive universe. Probably makes it the greatest wrestling game of all time. Hope it lives up to the expectations . We''ll see.
