Madden NFL 16 News Post

In our most recent poll here on Operation Sports, we found that just under 12% of you are playing Ultimate Team above the other modes in the game. When combined with Draft Champions (perhaps Ultimate Team lite), that number is 22%.

A few years ago, 1 in 5 people playing Ultimate Team type of modes in Madden was probably unfathomable. And yes, while the core of the experience in Madden for OS'ers still is Franchise, the number of people dabbling or moving into Ultimate Team modes certainly seems on the rise.

In our newest poll, we're asking you what your feelings on Ultimate Team are. Do you ever see yourself switching to it as a primary mode? Do you dabble in it already? Sound off by voting in our newest poll and comment on what you think of Ultimate Team modes below!

I don't play that mode. I'm a Franchise guy.

I would love to dive into MUT, however as it stands right now it doesn't pull me in like it does for others. The main reason for this is all players animate too similar (with the exception of QB throwing animations). I don't understand the intrigue with this mode when average players can pull off the same moves as Legends/Superstars. For example, my 3rd string RB has the same moves in his arsenal as Barry Sanders. I'm able to pull off spin moves with the same speed & effectiveness with Christian Okoye as I am with Ladanian Tomlinson. Now granted players have their individual ratings, however the only ones that seem to matter are speed, trucking & power.

My point is EA needs to really start to differentiate how these players animate especially RB's. Players should have their own player specific animation packages to prevent them from all doing the same moves with basically the same effectiveness. This would go a long way in adding intrigue to MUT for someone like me who wants to give it a try but can't justify investing in it for these reasons. As of now I just don't see the long term fun in the mode until EA really starts to individualize these players not only with traits & ratings but also in how they animate.

Personally, for me, I'm just not a fan of the mode, though I admit I don't really understand it, either. It doesn't appeal to me, having to spend a good amount of money for digital cards that won't carry over into future games.

I can only assume it is a big deal for EA because it rakes in cash. I have no issue if that's what people like, go for it, my only request on EA's part would be to not sacrifice other aspects of the game just to focus on UT. Franchise needs a lot of love, and I only worry it doesn't get enough attention because of the other modes EA's execs would prefer to focus on because they bring in money.

From a business standpoint, yeah I get it; from a consumer standpoint, it lends to a dissatisfaction. If the workload is shared, by all means, though that certainly doesn't absolve them of all the issues with the "primary mode" of the game.

Draft Champs and UT are the only things I've played. Hard to believe only 12% play UT. I bet the "real" number or people playing UT is much higher.

I hate Ultimate Team with a passion across all EA games. I have no interest in the game mode, as you just end up against pay-to-win guys, and exploiters.

I feel it's now pretty much their main focus, which means the rest of the modes I would play get less attention, and as a result are sub-par.

In terms of franchise mode (which is what I play the most of) it seems they just add a feature one year, and take it away the next year, just so they can reintroduce it later - which is lazy. Franchise modes across the board just feel threadbare, and I don't see it improving any time soon.

I haven't spent a dime on UT and enjoy it. But I will say it's easy to identify the "pay to win" players who do spend real money on their team. And when you run into those guys in a random game it does ruin the experience a bit.

Don't play it. I tried it out last year and it's just not for me, I like a more "realistic"approach to the game. Offline Franchise is my mode all the way

As was once said on M*A*S*H (yeah, I am that old), "The instrument has yet to be invented which can measure my indifference" to Ultimate Team. Purely offline franchise play for me.

I think I will be more interested in Ultimate Team when I can create my own uniforms / stadium / playbook and truly make it my team, as opposed to a collection of stars in some real team's uniforms in some other team's stadium.

As it stands now, I dabble with MUT very infrequently.

Well, with Franchise mode being so broken until a patch, I'll probably start playing MUT for the first time ever. I love the gameplay improvements in Madden 16, best playing Madden ever and I'm having the most fun since NFL 2k5. I gotta play, but since I don't want to wait for all the Franchise issues to be straightened out, and don't want to just play regular Play Now games for the next few weeks, MUT will get a look from me.

# 11 DefiantJustice @ 09/03/15 01:03 PM
I do play MUT but I can see why some people wouldn't. It is clearly just a cash grab by EA and every year they tweak things just to get you to spend more money on it.

i play the game for simulation aspects. never dabble at all in the fluff.

# 14 russ99 @ 09/03/15 02:03 PM
I dabble a little in it on some EA games, but the motivation behind it is so sleazy.

If we started UT with decent quality teams and there was a path to progression without EA's microtransaction cash grab and without an eBay-like users market, I'd play it a lot more.

# 15 Khanchus @ 09/03/15 02:13 PM
make it realistic....

4 min qtrs and what not

cool concept

great alternative to other game modes

hate all the attention it takes away from other modes

i like the fact that the revenue from MUT probably helps madden with a bigger budget and things of that sort....

I loathe any online mode that takes the focus away from the core offline mode...Franchise. I hate how all games today have become just about mandatory online even if it's just signing into a server to play even offline.

# 17 PPerfect_CJ @ 09/03/15 02:26 PM
Ultimate Team has basically DESTROYED FIFA. They don't even bother trying to improve the Career Modes or fix bugs in the game if it doesn't affect their "money maker." I'd like to have 5 minutes alone in a locked room with the guy that came up with this crap for sports games.

# 18 Behindshadows @ 09/03/15 02:29 PM
Don't play it and could care less for it...wish it would go away and focus more on a feature someone actually cares about or is beneficial..

Also what happened to Game Face?

It's kind of shocking to me that in the two polls, Franchise was such a huge feature and MUT wasn't very important to the OS community, like 1/5 hardcore guys. I would assume that this isn't a game wide trend as I feel this community, much more than others, is a mature and highly respectful place to discuss sports gaming.

Personally, I thought I was in the minority being a Franchise guy considering EA games like Madden and especially FIFA seem to put much less time and resources into those type of modes in favor of UT. I have to admit, FIFA Career Mode has been a complete after thought for the last two generations of consoles (Xbox/PS3 and XboxOne/PS4). It makes Franchise Mode in Madden look amazing in comparison.

Getting back on topic, I would love (and apparently quite a few others) Franchise Mode to have a lot more time put into it. There are a TON of features that I wish existed, too many to list to be honest. I'm at the point where I realize it's not a money maker like UT, but if they were to make an amazing Franchise Mode, I would pay an extra 15-20 bucks for it. I know that sounds a bit crazy, but who here that is a Franchise guy wouldn't pay extra for a fully functional, amazing Franchise mode? If it's the extra UT revenue that they are looking for and EA did it right, I know quite a few of us would pay for it.

Overall, I'm just happy to see I'm not alone. I just wish that I could start my franchise this year. I really hope whatever fixes they come up with, come sooner than later. Also, I hope the patch will work with the offline mode so I can control all 32 teams. I am OCD about a few things and like the ability to edit players and even possibly make sure they sign the right guys, add some realistic trades (draft day and offseason), you know things like that. I also like to save before I do certain things to ensure they aren't game breaking or to test sim stats, things of that nature. Anyhow, I'm just glad to see that people actually care about Franchise mode, hopefully EA takes note and gives us what we want. Thanks.

I don't play MUT and can't see myself ever really doing so. I avoid online sports gaming like the plague lol.
