WWE 2K16 News Post

IGN has posted some WWE 2K16 gameplay and entrance videos, along with some gameplay details. Chain grappling returns, with more transitions and moves, they will also have more impact with the different attribute values each wrestler has. So you will see ties, resulting in cheap shots or breakups. Working grapples are new this year, if you initiate the grapple, you can rest to gain more stamina, while your opponent loses some.

You start each match with a limited stock of reversals. Once you use one, it will slowly regenerate over time, meaning that if you try to counter every move thrown your way, you'll be out in no time flat, leaving you completely vulnerable until one regenerates. What's more, you can now pass on your initial chance to reverse a move at its startup, and instead attempt a mosre difficult to time "major" reversal mid-move. It will cost you two reversal stocks, but the effects can be match-changing, debuffing your opponent in a variety of possible ways and giving you time to really turn things around.

Below are a few more WWE 2K16 details:
  • MyCareer is back, and this time it goes a lot further, all the way to you gaining admission to the WWE Hall of Fame.
  • Create a Diva, Create a Show, Create an Arena, and Create a Championship are back in!
  • WWE Universe: Wrestlers can now be booked to multiple shows
  • Online has been "overhauled."
  • Three-man commentary team, with John "Bradshaw" Layfield joining King and Cole.
  • Ladder, handicap, and tornado tag match types added back in.
  • No loading screens between entrances, and you can assault opponents during their entrance!
  • Improved ref and manager AI.

Balor's timing is a little off in his entrance. Hope they can fix that in time.

I guess they had to eventually do something to nerf the reversals a bit, but I still think it would have made more sense to just have separate reversal buttons for strikes and grapples.

We'll see, hopefully the game will be much better this time than the last effort. It is one of my true guilty pleasures to create a late 80s/early 90s Universe, both WWF and WCW. It's an orgasm of nostalgia.

Create an arena was all I needed, I'm back in 2k, see you on Black Friday.

Also, hope those created belts look just as good as the regular ones.

The reversal system could be interesting. They could go a bit further and offer different amounts of reversals based on a wrestlers ratings or have some wrestlers reversals regenerate faster than others.

That commentary still sounds awful

Glad they added more matches back into the game. It looks like they have added a new submission system. Will that countdown at the top right of the screen be there all the time?

Yea King and Cole during Rollins entrance was disappointing. I don't want to quote it but King didn't even say Rollins name during his one comment.

Agreed. Sounds like the same ole, same ole. My hope is that they just ran with old audio, but I should know better. They didn't. It is going to be the same thing.

I wish not every voice was tied to the "voice" bar (or whatever it is) because if you turn it all the way down, you lose the ring announcer. It should be like The Show where each individual person has their own volume bar. Maybe I just want to hear King tell me "series of kicks" or that "soup is on the menu" 100x a match.

I mean, I don't, but options would be nice.

It's not accurate because they are actually calling the moves instead of nothing but storytelling.

Really digging the announcement.

The created stuff coming back, the match types coming back, the game play, etc.

I'm happy that different versions of the same guy (character) aren't considered unique but not happy that different characters played by the same guy (like the example of Mankind, Cactus Jack, Dude Love would be considered different characters...at least hopefully there aren't too many like that or I'll be very disappointed...by those rules all of the following would be multile character spots...Hunter Hearst Helmsley/Triple H, Diesel/Nash, Razor Ramon/Hall, 1-2-3 Kid/Syxx/X-Pac, etc) That would be very disappointing. You would think there would be a way to make them all under one character spot and someway to introduce them differently with different entrances, but maybe not)

Everything would have been perfect if create-a-finisher was also back. But this is still pretty great. Officially hype for this game.

Nice to see both demon and regular Balor in. If the selection of NXT and legend wrestlers is good enough I'll probably pick this up.

This makes me happy. Knowing most of the create features are back means I can bring back my Women's show!! Woop! I also wonder if that timer in the corner is how much time you have to attack your opponent. Universe ideas have started swirling already in my head haha!

Finally. A new pin and submission mini game.

Looked very good to me. Super excited.

they just can't seem to get crowd noise and cheering / booing to where it is at a live event. there's virtually no noise from the crowd 75% of the time - the other quarter of the time it's muffled low cheers - you'd expect that audio with PS2, but with today's current gen tech you should be able to create life-like sounds from inside the arena. if nothing else just mic a WWE crowd and record the reactions and cheering and chants, then just slide the audio files in.
