As we first speculated/reported a couple of months ago (and stuck with), Joe Montana is indeed a mobile football game. The game, currently in Pre-Alpha (read VERY early) will be releasing on iOS platforms first using the metal architecture of Apple devices and then on Android later. A PC release is possible, but that will be the last platform getting JMF.
The graphics do indeed look good for a mobile based game -- but the metal architecture has long been known to produce spectacular results. Mobile is indeed growing up, and you can see some truly special results on the platform.
Most likely, Joe Montana Football will be an ultimate team/free to play type of game, where you can buy or collect points to build a team up as you play other players. That's entirely speculative, but it fits with the tone of the mobile platform as well as with Grow's past experience.
Let's not forget the game will not carry the NFL license, since EA Sports has it exclusively, on all platforms. We'll have more on Joe Montana Football in the coming months as the game comes together. In the meantime, if you want to sign up for alpha release updates click here.
UPDATE: Chase Becotte interviewed Damon Grow this afternoon and we can confirm a few details on the game. Yes it’s an 11-on-11 football game with a more simulation style in mind. The game will have some modes to it, but those details are not yet finalized. Also not finalized is the final pricing model for the game. Tentative scheduled release for the game is sometime in the first half of 2016 on mobile platforms. If the mobile version does well, then PC will possibly see a release later on. At the present time, consoles are not in the works.
Chase will have more details in a piece forthcoming later.
