As we first speculated/reported a couple of months ago (and stuck with), Joe Montana is indeed a mobile football game. The game, currently in Pre-Alpha (read VERY early) will be releasing on iOS platforms first using the metal architecture of Apple devices and then on Android later. A PC release is possible, but that will be the last platform getting JMF.

The graphics do indeed look good for a mobile based game -- but the metal architecture has long been known to produce spectacular results. Mobile is indeed growing up, and you can see some truly special results on the platform.

Most likely, Joe Montana Football will be an ultimate team/free to play type of game, where you can buy or collect points to build a team up as you play other players. That's entirely speculative, but it fits with the tone of the mobile platform as well as with Grow's past experience.

Let's not forget the game will not carry the NFL license, since EA Sports has it exclusively, on all platforms. We'll have more on Joe Montana Football in the coming months as the game comes together. In the meantime, if you want to sign up for alpha release updates click here.

UPDATE: Chase Becotte interviewed Damon Grow this afternoon and we can confirm a few details on the game. Yes itís an 11-on-11 football game with a more simulation style in mind. The game will have some modes to it, but those details are not yet finalized. Also not finalized is the final pricing model for the game. Tentative scheduled release for the game is sometime in the first half of 2016 on mobile platforms. If the mobile version does well, then PC will possibly see a release later on. At the present time, consoles are not in the works.

Chase will have more details in a piece forthcoming later.

LOL.

So no 2k.

No NFL.

No Xbox Exclusive.

No Console release at all.

Whats funny is people are going to get mad about this but its all their fault. They only thing Damon confirmed over these months was that it was on PC. People here let that BS post and these rumors lead them to think that the game was more than it is.

A couple of other points from the interview. Damon said the game was in PRE-ALPHA so its likely that we wont see this game for a while. Also the game is coming out on mobile first so a PC release may be down the line....far down the line.

Bummer. But it makes sense. Who wants to try making a console football game after seeing so many fail and be forgotten?

I guess we can all still vote for All-Pro Football 2K8 to be added to backward compatibility.

So they tease and hide information for months for a mobile game. What a joke I wish those guys luck

# 7 csamuelsvt @ 06/17/15 12:25 PM
lol what a joke....figures tho. They let the hype grow and grow and kept saying "info coming tomorrow/soon" and then drop this.

Hopefully some enjoy this

Coming to PC and "if successful coming onto other platforms".

That would mean consoles, also means it needs to be successful and may take a while.

So not a total long shot if the quality is there and he stated that they are in it for the long haul.

At least there is someone, ANYONE attempting to bring a football game out, it's better than nothing.

With luck in a year or two we will have a viable alternative on consoles.

No need to dance on the grave just yet until we see how it plays out.

Hmm i take back what i said, maybe they do know how to market this game. They let the rumors go on for all these months and maybe planted themselves for attention and boom..

oh well, guess we are stuck with madden for years to come.

# 13 Primo80 @ 06/17/15 12:30 PM
Well, well, well. There we have it. I'm definitely more interested than i was, because it looks great. They seem like they are going after madden over the long term. I'm so happy to hear Damon say they arent necessarily looking to make yearly installments. They will own that mobile, pc market and with that comes a lot of possibilities. For one, digital distribution and content patches. If they can roll out content on their schedule instead of being slaves to deadlines and yearly marketing phases, i see that being an advantage.

Have they said who is publishing? Is backbreaker in the equation?

Amazing how quickly things change. I was actually looking forward to seeing what this game had to offer. Not really anymore. This is why you don't buy into hype.

The only thing unreal is how much of a douche Damon Grow looks like now. He could have told us long ago what platform this game was destined for instead he tortures us into thinking it was a console game only to pull the rug from beneath our feet. You suck big time Damon!

# 16 roadman @ 06/17/15 12:30 PM
Well, I remember mentioning at the time that was what Damon's career has been, mobile gaming.

They could make a good amount of sales on the mobile market.

# 17 ratedmoney @ 06/17/15 12:31 PM
Never understood the hype people had for this game in the first place. They literally revealed nothing and everyone was saying screw the other game I cant wait for this to come out. Now reality sets in, this is a mobile game that probably wont ever make it to consoles. And although this is a complete guess on my part im gonna say gameplay wont be anything special.

With the initial release not going to console I doubt this ever takes off enough to get there.

I think Pasta said it best:

Bryan Wiedey@pastapadre 15m15 minutes ago It's also clear now the Montana people let the made-up rumors swirl, cause they knew it would get more attention for their game.

That is my major annoyance with how they handled it. Totally fine that they are making their game. But they knew what they were doing by not saying stuff. It makes zero sense to be so secretive over a non-licensed mobile football game unless you want to lead people on. They totally played did this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l54gcEwt4SM
