Konami has just announced their World Challenge DLC, an all-new mode for Pro Evolution Soccer 2014. Check out the press release below.

PES 2014: World Challenge DLC Warms Up
New Trailer Showcases New World Challenge which is Coming Later this Month

Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. has announced new DLC content for PES 2014, with an all-new World Challenge mode featuring a new International Cup.

The new content is available for Xbox 360 and the PlayStation®3 system, and integrates an all-new International Cup competition into PES 2014. The mode charges the user with guiding their international team or player to glory in the International Cup competition. In ‘Team’ mode, the user governs every aspect of play, from team selection, to choosing offensive and defensive tactics, while ‘Player’ mode sees the player striving to earn selection and retain their place via their performances in a game.

The World Challenge mode runs the full gamut of a top-level competition, from qualifying rounds, through to the main tournament. Within the mode, players can adapt their squads in the run up to qualification, set up friendly matches to recruit new talent, and finally enter the group and knock out stages of the tournament. The mode features separate qualification competitions for European, African, American and Asian sides, with a set number from each continent allocated spaces.

The DLC features entirely new presentation and front-end elements, with options to view squad details down to the finest detail, while new AI elements see players responding to strong performances and raising their game, or suffering a crisis of confidence which can affect their playing levels. New cut scenes have also been added, presenting final squad selection once gamers qualify for the International Cup, following a successful regional qualification round. World Challenge mode also includes the official Brazilian national team and player likeness.

As part of the continued support of PES 2014, a free DLC and patch will be available on the same day, updating a whole host of features. It will update nine International team kits such as Italy, Portugal and Greece, as well as implementing 11 new boots from Nike, adidas, Puma and Umbro. Also included are over 60 player face updates and additions, with lifelike representations of England's Jack Wilshere, Spain's David Silva and Gerard Pique, and Germany's Mario Götze and Marco Reus. The new adidas Brazuca ball will also be added.

The patch will improve gameplay for a smoother experience, while bringing in new anti-cheating measures for online play, as well as the ability to select the World Challenge mode (purchase required to access).

World Challenge Mode will be available to download on March 26 via Xbox LIVE®, and April 1 via PlayStation®Network, priced at $4.99 with free DLC and patch released at same time.

Don't know how I've missed this but very impressive looking mode. I will be getting it for sure.

I think I'll wait to see if its worth the $13. The FIFA game looks good, but I suspect/fear that the gameplay will be a dumbed down, sped up version of FIFA 14, geared towards casual gamers.

I didn't realize this wasn't for PC. Would force me to buy the game for 360+DLC for this...WHY?!

Is this a Fifa World Cup without license?

Updated PR, it's $4.99. March 26 for 360, April 1 for PS3.

$5 (instead of $13) and a recent price drop to the main game just made this an option.

Just read PES 14 is supposed to be one of the free Playstation Plus games in April. The article doesn't state whether it's for all regions. Would be a nice way to check out the game if you don't already have it and pay only the $5 for the world tournament DLC.

It'll be free for those European PS Plus members though, I'd have downloaded it for sure if it was on the American store.

What I did was make an EU account then I did the 14 day free trial of PS+ off of the store then downloaded the game and am now playing on my US account. I'd assume it would stop after my trial is up on the EU account but who knows.

That's actually my plan for the weekend...makes it a 2 week free rental of PES. Can't beat that.

Been on a video game hiatus and haven't played PES since 11 or 12...was thinking of getting the World Cup video game but the new DLC for PES has me intrigued (I was always more of a PES fan, dating back to the ISS days). How's it look?

# 18 LingeringRegime @ 04/13/14 03:03 PM
It looks like this. A little better than this actually because of the video compression.

Fox Engine is absolutely stunning. Imo is the best engine right now in sports videogames. KONAMI though needs to improve the game in all areas. Unfortunately both football games (Fifa/PES) have many gameplay problems and they don't represent the sport very well.

I love how when you wrong-foot a defender in this game it results in a foul. Way too many perfect tackles in the other game.
