This game may challenge No Mercy finally for the title. I have to get more into the creation suite and let Universe play out a little longer, but on the surface it's a great offering.

The Game definitely moves at a much faster pace. I am not only talking about the gameplay. The initial loading time and transitions in between menus is faster as well (WWE 13 moved at a snail's pace). The gameplay is pretty much the same as last year with the exception of the exclusion of chain reversals. I haven't quite determined how I feel about no chain reversals. I like that if you reverse a move you get the immediate payoff, but sometimes there are moments in wrestling where reversals are chained together. I think they should have kept reversal chains, just make the reversal windows smaller for each subsequent reversal.

So far I have played only "30 Years of Wrestlemania" mode through WM III. The grainy "footage" and vintage broadcast graphics are great but I expect nothing less from 2k. This is very similar to NBA 2K and it looks great with wrestling as well. My only drawback here is that I could barely hear Hulk Hogan's theme music as he made his way to the ring. As a kid I remember Hogan's music hit and the place would go bananas but you could still hear the music on the TV broadcast. I don't feel that either of those aspects are well represented here (crowd or music) and those are huge aspects of what make Wrestling what it is.

So far I give the game a preliminary 8.5/10 as I have not gotten to Universe mode yet (this is the mode i will play the most). The game is very solid and I see the very high replay value.

Is it really that good? I never got it, but from gameplay videos I've seen, it looks real similar to last years.

And last years had LOTS of bugs/glitches(there's a website that had a list of the bugs/glitches. It had to be like 50-60 diff things on there(not minor things like "____ shirt has a spelling mistake"). It's huge things such as modes not working, announcers not even saying anything and so on.)

I think it's good but could still use some work

A lot of the bugs have been fixed this year which is great, the A.I. also seems better but could still use a little work. A.I is very important I think and this year it did improve. I also like the rivalry manager in Universe

With all that said, while the roster is good, I would personally like a more current roster with all of the current males on the WWE roster first before adding legends, though I don't have a problem with legends I just wish the game would focus more on current time.

I'm also not much on nostalgic modes like 30 years of Wrestlemania. However, they did a spectacular job with that mode, spot on with a lot of things.

Overall 7.8/10

Great game. First thing you notice is how crisp the graphics are compared to the past. Models still may not look as good as they could but everything is crisp and clear. Goldberg and Ryback may be the best looking models in the game! The gameplay is smoother than before. Ive still got to play it more to give it a final score but as of now its looking like an 8/10

Excellent game even for someone who hasn't picked up a wwe game or watched a wwe show in years 8/10, had there been more voiceovers and wrestlers audio 9/10, a WCW greatest matches also including midcarders and LWO 10/10

My only burden was the commentary, very uninspired, I never liked the combo anyhow

I hate to say this because a lot of games lately do, but it feels better. It's still a Yukes WWE game, but it does feel better than the previous couple years.

---

Initial thoughts are that it's a good game. It still has the gameplay issues as far as differentiating guys, but the AI is more aggressive in attacking (as opposed to a reversal-fest), and seems smarter in general.

Presentation is good in terms of graphic overlays, but commentary still sucks outside of WrestleMania mode. JR sometimes sounds disinterested in entrances, but without knowing how long they recorded/effects of his health on his delivery, I'm not going to crap too much on it. Lawler and Ross are good in the mode's matches, where they're able to cite some of the actual dialogue and build the story. Exhibition/Universe commentary? It just blows.

Overall, it's probably their best effort in a few years.

Same game with different rosters and Wretemania mode instead of Attitude.

Nonsense! NONSENSE I SAY!

This game is good. Nice selection of wrestlers, arenas and the Mania Mode. But the fact remains that majority of the title remains unchanged. Same creation suite and some of features are just plain missing. I know personally that I've had my fair share of game freezes and glitches.

The game is fun to play and is good, but its not even close to being in the same conversation as No Mercy, Smackdown 2, Smackdown vs. Raw 2006 or 2007 or HCTP. Those titles are in a class by themselves are will forever be the gold standard are truly amazing wrestling games that were ahead of their time.

What I'd give for SVR '07 + Creation Suite

I think it's a step in the right direction for the franchise. I'm really excited to see what 2K does with it next year.

Really? The AI is much better on this game. Obviously it's not perfect but it's definitely an upgrade from previous versions.

This is the best Wrestling game I ever played I enjoy the promo before the Hogan and Savage match at Wrestlemania V

I actually do think that this game trumps No Mercy, and could be my favourite wrestling title ever, which is saying a lot. Having lived through 30 years of WrestleMania in real life (yeah, I'm old), I think this title has everything. Amazing roster, incredible attention to historical detail, and it's finally, finally challenging to play. What else do you need?

Nice job, 2K. I love this game.

Um, how do you know that?

2K is the publisher, Yukes couldn't do anything without 2K's approval. Many of the new ideas may have came from 2K themselves, since it certainly does not feel as stale as it has been when they where with THQ. But debating who had input where during the creative process is completely off topic. It's a great game.
