$$$...The answer lies in the $$$. Is it profitable for both sides? Has it proven to be more profitable for NFL/NFLPA to license its property to one publisher vs. multiple entities? If so, will anyone pay what has been paid in the past going forward considering the changes in the publishing landscape? Has EA made more money with the license vs. when it didn't have exclusivity? If so, do they think the future will be as profitable? What impact will the cost of developing on next gen for the first time have on the quantity and quality of sports games we will get - i.e. can anyone else even afford to make a competitive football game for the PS4/720 right now? I have more questions than answers.

Sadly, yes. The NFL licence is too big of a deal now.

I'm praying they don't. At this point, I would kill for a different football option.

Great Idea, Because I Hope EA Can Renew the Madden Exclusive License for a couple more years!

I hope not, but I'm almost certain EA will push to renew it. NFL 2k5 is still talked about and they almost certainly wouldn't want that competition to test their baby.

By default, the next console should yield better games. If we're still comparing NFL 2K5 to whatever new version of Madden, then EA Sports need to stop making football games.

I don't think it's a matter so much of "will they" as much as it is a matter of "when will they" and "how much will it cost".

Sadly, yes.

I think the problem is that people make NFL 2K5 out to be something it's not - the be all end all. I didn't even like it better than Madden 2005, much less more recent Maddens.

I am all for competition and don't like the exclusive licenses at all - but some people need to be a little less blindly biased towards 2K.

I don't think Madden is a strong enough football title to survive without the NFL license so as long as EA wants to keep making Madden they will need the license to sell the game.

I think I speak for everyone when I say God I hope not, but they probably will because it means less work for them.

I hope the NFL says no.. we need competition in video games, EA and another company (hopefully 2k) make games. But probably not gonna happen and EA will keep exclusive license

I read somewhere that since the NFL and EA Sports extended the terms of their contract EA has been losing a TON of money in many areas including the license they signed with the NFL. Basically it worked out that EA wouldn't be in a position to buy more years of exclusivity because the cost would be to great when compared to the profits that they would yield. They might just let it become an open market again and hope that sales don't drop to dramatically because of casual gamers buying the game simply because its "Madden". Either that or they would have to get off their asses and actually make a game that could compete with a rival product. We all saw how that turned out though didn't we NBA Live?

If God's listening, I pray He opens up room for competition. It's so much that could be done in a game, but EA refuses to do so. Competition would only see improvements for the future.

We can only hope not.
