Official Press Release

2K Sports Announces Major League Baseball 2K13 and Return of the Perfect Game Challenge

Cy Young Award Winner and Tampa Bay Rays` ace David Price named cover athlete

2K Sports today announced that the Company has reached an agreement with Major League Baseball, the Major League Baseball Players Association, and Major League Baseball Advanced Media to release Major League Baseball 2K13, the next iteration of the popular MLB 2K franchise. MLB 2K13 will be available on March 5, 2013,for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation3 computer entertainment system.

"We`d like to thank our league partners for their support in helping us reach an agreement to bring back MLB 2K," said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. "We know fans are extremely passionate about the MLB 2K series and the Perfect Game Challenge."

David Price, ace pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays, has been selected as the cover athlete for MLB 2K13. Price was recently named the American League Cy Young Award winner after posting a 20-5 record and league-best 2.56 ERA. Price edged out MLB 2K12 cover athlete Justin Verlander for the honors, and is the third consecutive reigning Cy Young Award winner to grace the cover of an MLB 2K game.

"It`s a dream come true to appear on the cover of MLB 2K13," concluded Price, who helped lead the Rays to their fourth 90-win season in the last five years. "I`m looking forward to working with the 2K Sports team again, and welcoming another skilled gamer into `The Perfect Club.`"

The Perfect Game Challenge*, 2K Sports` groundbreaking $1 million competition, will also be returning for a fourth consecutive year and introduce a new contest format with exciting ways to win. Since 2010, 2K Sports has awarded $3 million in prize money to players exhibiting the highest caliber of skill in throwing a perfect game in MLB 2K. Last year`s Perfect Game Challenge achieved record participation numbers, with nearly 1 million attempts made and more than 1,000 perfect games registered. The contest was won by 21-year-old Christopher Gilmore, who prevailed in an eight-person tournament at the MLB FanCave in New York City. Complete details of this year`s contest will be announced at a later date.

Developed by Visual Concepts, a 2K Sports studio, MLB2K13 is not yet rated by the ESRB and will be available on March 5, 2013 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 system.

But I find it funny that he fully admits to being dead-wrong about there even being a 2K13 (weren't most of us ), but won't consider that he could also be wrong that this game has received more time and effort than simply updated rosters and moving the Astros to the AL?

Time will tell. But for now, I'm just super geeked that we'll get another year of 2K baseball.
"if we see anything more than a re-skinned MLB 2K12, I will be even more surprised than I was this morning."

Try reading it again. No matter how you'd like to spin it, this sentence isn't definitive.

I hope with this being the last title on the 360 and PS3 until the next consoles.....

That 2k listened to our cries and request in the forums.....

Especially by boosting the graphics and hopefully maxing out the consoles specs....

Even if they go back to the art style of MLB 2k7 which had the best graphics in the series....

(MLB 2k7 Screenshots Taken Today)

Would love to see them get back on this level......

Can't wait to see some footage and hope it's more than a roster upgrade.

I really hope so too

I dont understand why the hell they change all of the sudden the graphics, the game right now i so ugly and so "unclean", hate the colors.

I still have MLB 2k11, and still play the game, and love the game despite the flaws, but i hope they put some love and soul in the last 2k baseball game on this gen, i think the players that buy their games deserve this much.

I'm happy for the 360-only gamers that will have a baseball game to play after all.

WOW I bought a new game system just because the show was the only baseball game on the xbox.

I'm fully aware that many people do not play in a way that generates 120+ pitches a game. That pitch speed is fine if you are not actually reading pitches and taking strikes in an effort to get a the right pitch in the right location.

And some people like a lighter game like that. But 2K12 requires more thought and a plan for each at-bat.

How many hours have you put into the series?
The Show is anything but simple or easy when you first play it. Like I said before, I don't have 10+ hours a week to play this game.

I think there was a poll put on O.S. a few months ago asking what pitch speed people have it set to.
A majority (over 60%) I believe had it at 0, while another chunk of people said they wanted it even lower than that.

And in the SCEA run test groups, which Russell has spoken about here time and time again, the resounding request from all of these groups was that the game was too hard, and the pitch speed is too fast.

The Show is anything but pick-up-and-play. It's for the hardcore that have oodles of time to play on.
With 2K, I never felt frustrated. And the slider sets, which are superior to The Shows, make it a lot more customizable to mold the game however you like.

I wish people would stop saying that....

Good for people who only have 360....

No it's good for business and competition. I am sure 360 only gamers could survive with baseball.

I own all consoles and PC... and regardless I think it's good for 2ksports, because they almost removed another title from their library.

In the Show the pitch speeds are way too fast, even at 0 (Russel admits that the majority of people they test the game on, have said so as well).
It's incredibly difficult to pick up on what pitch is being delivered, and the CPU is very good even at low levels.
I'm sure several Show fans will say "Wow, this guy stinks if he thinks that way".
Yes, I stink. And I know that practice would help.
But here's the thing. I'm nearly 40, have a wife, 2 active kids, and a 50-hour work week. I have maybe 5 to 6 hours of game playing time during the week.
I don't feel it should be necessary to put in 60 hours in a game in order to enjoy it, or be good at it.
With 2K, I can. Right away.
With Hitters Eye, a higher slider scale and lower settings that are truly easy, I can pick up and play immediately.

The Show deserves it's accolades. But I don't think words like 'unplayable' are warranted with 2k11 or 2K12. Both were very good games that many have enjoyed.
Money. I hear you. I have both games (The Show 12 and 2k12) -- I enjoy both but I do appreciate the playability of 2k11 and 2k12, especially for the casual gamers like you and me in our 40's with wife and kids.

Well well talk about shocking. Now I'm not a fan of the 2k baseball games because I feel The Show does it better but by no means am I a *****. I have both a 360 and PS3 so if the demo can convince me to pick this up then I may have 2 baseball games this spring. That my friends is awesome =]

Jokes aside, there was early uncertainty about a PC version last year and it worked out. 2K's marketing is terrible, so there's a chance it simply was not initially listed. Hopefully that's the case here, since the PC version is the only way for me to go with this series.
