Trey Wingo and Designer Vic Lugo show you how you can call the shots on both offense and defense and why Madden is Better with Kinect.

UPDATE: For those asking, why we can't use a headset.
Quote:
Kinect has a microprocessor inside that processes speech. Regular mic's do not. This is why Mass Effect 3 PS3 couldnt do voice.

Last thing, for anyone asking. PSEye does not have a similar microprocessor inside so that's out as well.

So not to be a negative Nancy but can anyone tell me what exactly is Kinect about that?

Couldn't the same functionality be done with a gaming headset connected to your 360 controller?

Well and I am only speculating here but the voice detection part if probably part of the Kinect SDK and to my knowledge all 360's have the software installed but need the Kinects microphone to use it.

So I am sure that MS is not going to let EA tap into that and someone use a headset. Now whether the PS3 has voice recognition software I don't know.

It's cool enough but my Kinect is on a secondary 360 for my kids so I'll never use this.

Looks pretty cool. I'll give it a try and see if I can do it without too much yelling. Mass Effect 3 had this kind of stuff in it too, but I never used it.

You do need to buy a Kinect to unlock voice detection on the 360. In Mass Effect 3 the voice options are not unlocked and visible in-game without a Kinect plugged in.

I have no idea if there is anything similar on the PS3...I have not heard of it.

It think this would be very fun if coach mode can be turned on like in older maddens were you pick the play then let the team exacute it on there own. I wonder if the feature will be in there?

That is actually really sweet.

I like it, you don't really need to yell/scream for it to work either. The harvin thing made me laugh haha

In fact a quick google search suggest that it is software driven so not sure if the source giving you that answer Steve is accurate.

EDIT: Just digging a little deeper because this stuff interest me. The Kinect has a a 4 microphone array with processor for noise suppression and acoustic source localization. However the speech recognition is most definitively software driven according to about 3 article I just glanced at.

I didn't really understand why they covered him the way it did. The video looked like it was a coverage audible for the selected defender, which was a OLB on the opposite side of the field from Harvin, no wonder he didn't get there in time to help out. I wonder if you can alter you coverage and have a non-selected player go and apply extra coverage (like pull a FS out of zone coverage to double a WR, but the currently selected defender being a DL)?

I wrote that guy telling him I thought he was wrong and he cited a Kotaku article quoting a VG producer explaining why ME3 only had it on the 360.

Not sure where to go with such hard evidence contrary to my point

I don't know about that, nor do I know what the MP really does..I doubt anyone does. I just know you can find a dozen tutorials on implementing voice recognition for the Kinect and they all reference several MS SDK's for creating grammar libraries.

It's entirely possible that they way the Xbox / 360 is set up the microprocessor assist in the voice recognition but that is an entirely different statement than.

" Kinect has a microprocessor inside that processes speech"

That's the part I don't buy, sorry.

It is better implemented than I thought it would be.

I can see having fun utilizing this feature more so on the defensive side of it.

I will definitely give it a try. May give me a reason to finally use my kinect.

I like the idea. Not a fan of it being exclusive to XBox 360. But still a great idea.

With 2 different 'system on a chip' solutions in the Kinect, I wouldn't be surprised if one of the Marvell assisted with the audio processing. Either way, the SDK is most certainly the key to putting it all together.

Would never touch the Kinect stuff...developing it is a waste of time IMO.

Come on... this can be done because it was done before on headset...

To the bold part... If you can I will go out this week and get a Kinect again...
Probably will anyways.

Exactly. I'll never get the selfish "Waste of time" crap from people.
World we live in now though..
I personally don't ever play online ranked games etc.. but understand I'm not the center of the universe and others do use it. So I can understand why it's there and not a waste.
