NBA 2K13 News Post

We posted earlier today about the new NBA 2K13 cover athletes, with Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin, and Derek Rose taking center stage this year in a move that's polar opposite to the past two years of legends.

But now the question shifts to you: do you like the new cover athlete choices? Do you think it indicates anything about the direction of the game this year?

Seems like they are trying to counter NBA Live's move of the younger generation

Good to see KD is in.

I could care less as long as the game is good 2k needs to save their money with that marketing gimmick because the 2k name is already established they don't need a cover athlete when games finally go all digital no one will miss this promotion practice

I was really hoping 2K could get this stud on the cover:

Durant is a great choice, but just got out played in the finals. Rose wont play again till the all-star break and may never be the same again. Griffin is a flopping bitch. Terrible choices overall besides Durant.

It won't totally go that way , because there are markets that still needs multimedia who are not ready to fully converge to Digital, E3 Microsoft Exec said this while xbox was presenting.. Also they will still advertise even if it does go all digital.

To me it doesn't matter it's not like I sit on the couch staring at the cover.
I'm worried about the game.

Well I'm planning on buying a Digital Version of it, so I wouldn't even get a cover. It doesn't really matter to me... although if Scal was on it I would go buy a tangible in a heartbeat.

I'm not a big fan of having Blake on the cover. Using him could be a Slam dunk or a BIg flop

Does it really matter anymore who's on the cover? Once the game goes in the system I don't open or look at the box anymore.

Should've been the 92 Dream Team or did whatever they had to do to get a Reggie Miller, Charles Barkley and Allen Iverson cover.

Huhhhhh??? Dream Team maybe if they had all of them in the game---but by the time the game is released, the summer olympics would have been over and the whole retro thing has been done to death. Miller, Chuck, and a A.I. is plain ridiculous! Miller and Chuck have too big of an ego and A.I. has been the cover of 2K for its first four years. Nobody cares for A.I. anymore except his hardcore fans and people in Philly.

You can't hate on 2K for their cover picks, they have 3 players with the top ten selling NBA jerseys. It's all about marketability and sales.

2011-12 Top Selling NBA Jerseys in the United States

2. Jeremy Lin, New York Knicks

3. Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers

4. LeBron James, Miami Heat

5. Carmelo Anthony, New York Knicks

6. Dwyane Wade, Miami Heat

7. Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas Mavericks

8. Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City Thunder

9. Blake Griffin, Los Angeles Clippers

Love it! Its depicts the current and young, a good change from the "greatest" era.

Griffin is questionable but they're all solid cover choices. Seeing Rose on the cover makes me sad because I know we won't be seeing him until Playoff time next year.

This is how I feel too. Some folks are mad about Griffin being on the cover, but it's a smart play. This is speculation on my part of course, but only Lebron and Kobe could be of more help moving units among current players and I bet their price tag is probably 2 or 3 times Blake's at the very least.

I like the cover athletes, just not the cover. It's too bland. They should also do a cover with Lebron, Kobe, and Dwight Howard aka the villains edition lol

WHERES RING JAMES????

I disagree with the retro thing being done to death. Reggie, Charles and A.I. are the 3 legends that people have been complaining about that are missing. No secret that 2k's biggest selling bball games have come with the inclusion of legends in the game and on the covers. That's because there's a huge market for it in video games. They had myplayer, association and all that in 2k10, but things went through the roof when they added the legend modes. At the very least having covers of Rose/Jordan, Kobe/Magic and Bird/Rondo would've been great ideas.
