The first matchup of the greatest sports game tournament is an interesting one between the new school of great sports games (detailed simulations) vs. the old school of great sports games (arcade hits). Will nostalgia or the desire of simulation nuts win this matchup and advance onto the championship round?

As far as pure enjoyment level goes, TSB is going to be hard to beat. I can hear the intense rivalry game music now!

I love The Show, but for me, TSB gets the nod.

The Show 10 is great, but it didn't do anything groundbreaking.

Tecmo Super Bowl had the great arcade gameplay, but then added some much more, which was revolutionary at the time:

-Dynamic Player Performance. You think Madden 12 was the first football game to have this? Nope. TSB had it back in 1991. Guys could go from Hot to Cold, based on their performance, and you definitely felt a difference in how they played.

-Coach Mode. Yep, TSB had this back in the day. A nice way to change things up if playing single-player games became too easy.

-Editing rosters and playbooks.

-Season stat tracking for both team and individuals.

To me, it's those things plus the addicting gameplay, that puts Tecmo over the top. As I've said before, I bought a PS3 for The Show 10, but I doubt that 20 years down the road, I'll be playing that game. I'm still playing Tecmo Super Bowl, and that speaks volumes to me.

I couldn't have said this any better. This is pure perfection.

I find it ironic that two baseball titles, typically one of the poorest selling sports video games genres, would dominate these brackets. Either there are a lot of 'fans' who rent or a lot of people just following the herd.

I think it helps that Knights rosters are about to come out, baseball season is about to start and the Show just came out.

This is also operation sports. The masses of casual gamers aren't voting here. i.e. The ones that play Madden because their friends do.

This is for the more hardcore sports video game fans. i.e. OS Members.
And with those, alot know that both baseball titles were a couple of the best sports games of all time.

For my money The Show is the finest sports game I have ever played. It gets my vote.

Oh yay... an all baseball championship...

Man, this is tough. On one hand, TSB was downright revolutionary for it's time. On the other, the Show is the best sports franchise out there right now, and beats out all of the EA empire.

I'm in no way knocking on MLB 10 The Show. I still have the game and it's great. Wish we could see the average age of voters that voted for each. I think that would be interesting to see.
I am in my mid 30's played both and the Show got my vote.

I voted TSB, just because I think MLB only started to get really good last year, when they added custom hitting and pitching cameras. And it's gotten even better this year, but even still I'd probably vote for TSB over MLB 12. TSB was/is a powerhouse. The lovefest for The Show on these forums will likely carry it through.

That was part of my reasoning, as well. If we were talking about The Show as a series versus Tecmo Bowl as a series, then yeah, I'd go with The Show. But, to me, MLB 10 while very, very good, isn't the best put out by the SCEA crew, while Tecmo Super Bowl clearly is the best game by Tecmo.

It is unfortunate that the list of games and seeding's was complete before MLB 12 released, but I still don't take away from how great MLB 10 was. If you take away from MLB 10 because it's not as good as MLB 12, then why can't someone take away from Tecmo Super Bowl because of how good a game like Madden 2003 was? I understand that the comparison doesn't exactly hold like the MLB 10 to 12, but you get my point. I personally feel that MLB 10 was the better game, TSB was revolutionary, but MLB 10 is just too good and I kind of have a soft spot for it....

Tecmo Super Bowl is the best sports game ever. Even after I won the Super Bowl with all the teams, it still didn't get old

Remember how awesome it was to create your own Pro Bowl teams at the end of the season? I'd take all the league leaders in their respective stats and put them in as the pro bowlers, then I'd set the game to COM and watch it.

The best was trying to get guys like Al Toon and Freeman Mcneil (Jets fan) Pro Bowl spots by playing them well throughout the season.

What fun.
