For myself 1 month prior to the season is perfect.

When there is a month left before the NFL Season I am feining for some football, and getting Madden gets me a nice fix. That way by the time the season starts I have already got a good amount of games in on Madden and can play here and there during the season, while if it came out a week before like this year then I would play but once the season starts I would be playing less and focusing on the NFL games more.

Plus I HATE waiting!

NCAA style. With the difference in times, I believe a patch would get the game up to speed at the same time as if you went with the Madden style. You just get a month more to play the game.

and like Papz, I hate waiting

I think you can never be hurt to have as much time as possible. The first.week of the season would make sense to me and tie it all together with promotions

well, the best time would be when the season ends because then you'd have the most accurate rosters and ratings (and probably real-life roster moves, trades etc. by the cpu teams) but who'd buy a game that's released after the season? Probably it wouldn't matter, F1 2010 was released when the season was almost over and they sold a lotta copies.

I like the way NCAA does, about 2 months earlier. This time of year, with basketball over and no football, I need something to make it through this tough time. I'll get to play a lot of games until the real thing starts.

The only one I'd say should be different is a College Hoops/NCAA Basketball game.
I think a November release gets over shadowed way too easily. Maybe like a March 1st?
The thing that brings people to want to watch college basketball games is the tourney. So why not release it around then?
Just makes sense in my opinion.

Tough question. For baseball, a month ahead. For NCAA football July is best not to conflict with Madden. Where things get congested is when NBA and NHL games release. It makes it challenging for gamers to divy up the time.

I feel that them putting out the game a week before the season starts sounds good. It would help people get more into the game like Madden or NBA2k or baseball. So overall I think a week before the season start is the best time.

I do agree with that. Unfortunately, most people only watch college basketball in march, so it get more sales if they release the game a week or two before the tournament. Now that's only for NCAA Basketball or choops. All other games before the season.

I'm with Christian on this one. When Madden used to drop right before Thanksgiving, it was such a huge deal to me and my friends.

Definitely a month or earlier...I use the video game to help pump me up for the real thing.

At first, I would have said a week before even after the start of the season, but the more I think, by releasing it well before the season, you offer the people time to tweak everything, get use to the game, and then, when real season start, people are prime, rosters are set, sliders are fine, and everyone is ready to hit their stride in their franchise.

The only problem I see with that (exemple is NHL 11) is the fact that rosters are out to date, and if you don't allow roster sharing, then you have your first full roster release a month after the season start (which makes it 2 months after the game release).

Also (NHL 11 as exemple), the month you lose would have been usefull testing the game enterily and see the AI lapses all over the place.

It would be perfect and wouldn't hurt the sale since you would have a copy of the last game all season long. I mean, I play NHL 11 all-year long, so that don't make a difference to me. If the game was set to release now (after the draft and FA signing), I wouldn't mind.

That would keep everyone happy until the training camp and releasing of players, but then, people having franchise would be so deep into them that they wouldn't restart.

It's not a bad idea if you think about it calmly! :-)

If you want to sell video games...I think you do it a month ahead of time. First you get those excited for the game itself to go out and buy it, plus another wave when the real season starts.

As a fan, I think this is perfect as well as I got to "scratch the itch" sooner plus the devs have a chance to patch the game before the season starts.

I think the day the season starts, so that if any team makes any last minute trades etc. that way the move will already be in the game so you dont have make the moves yourself and you can start playing right away

I see no mention of FIFA. The best-selling sports game is released a solid month AFTER most european leagues kick off (almost 2 months after the start of the french league).

A Month before the season starts.

I voted for "start of the season"

But I just realized that I rather have it a month or so before the season the way sports games are going now..Bout time the season start, I should have rosters, sliders and all/or most of the patches..

In summer, just before the seasons starts, and when usually people gets more time to play games...

The day the season starts makes the most sense to me, but they would never do that for football, because the season is short enough that it would be a money-loser for them if players decided that post-Super Bowl, last year's Madden feels too dated.

But in general, I'd rather have it when the season starts so hopefully they can get the bugs and rosters ironed out perfectly.
