"So it's finally sunk in: Peyton Hillis is really going to be on the cover of Madden NFL 12. Sorry, but it just took us awhile to digest the fact that Peyton Freaking Hillis, who has exactly one 1,000-yard season and one 10-TD season since high school, has somehow landed the most prestigious box cover in sports gaming. No wonder gaming companies aren’t run by fans.

After EA Sports let gamers vote on the cover this year, and they chose Hillis over a boatload of other more qualified candidates (think Ray Rice and Aaron Rodgers), we have a feeling everyone who doesn't live in Cleveland wants a do-over. Because if—no, make that when—the clock strikes midnight and Hillis morphs from Pro Bowl Cinderella to fullback pumpkin, he’ll be another all-too-tempting candidate The Top 10 Strangest Cover Athletes in Video Games…"

I couldn't agree more. Not only is he on a losing team, he's not even a top 10 running back let alone one of the top players in the league. And for them to do some type of playoff bracket to see who gets it... and he beats out A Rodgers on his side, smdh. Yea its safe to say the fans got it horribly wrong this time. The bright side though he doesn't have to worry about a curse... the browns suck enough all by there-selves lol.

A no name means a marketing nightmare for EA, bottomline, but, to be honest, they seem to be doing enough IN GAME to be able to counter it and presentation seems to be the biggest for them.

As for other strange cover situations, eh, can't think of any right now.

While not the American cover, it should've been in the list.

I doubt Hillis being on the cover is gonna hurt EA in selling madden. I mean there were 13 million votes cast in this thing so people picked who they wanted. Watch this years madden be one of the best selling of all time.

I never said he sucks...I said he's not a top 10 running back "pay attention." and as far as you making an argument saying everyone knows him, its called the media duh lol. Just cause you know him means what exactly??? and writing in all caps isn't gonna make the Browns win any games.. You were supposed to be good last year to, what happen with that lmfao. Cleveland sports??? Last time Cleveland won something.... 1964. Rolling Stones released their debut album that year. loooool

Peyton hillis didnt lead the league in fumbles a QB did. Get your facts right.

I like the choice. He is a guy who came out of nowhere to burst onto the scene. He punishes players when he runs. He is the kind of player fans love. He wont be the top talent in the league, and he might never be top 10 as far as talent is concerned at the RB position, but you have to respect the fact that he ran for 1000 yards the way he did and for the team he did it with. Now was a perfect time for a guy like him to be on the cover.

This cover was pre judged. If anyone remembers when this whole tournament first started who were the two candidate cover athletes to run the ESPN gauntlet of shows to promote the voting? I remember vividly that it was Mike Vick and Peyton Hillis. They were on the Mike and Mike Show and ended on Sportsnation. I dont see anything wrong with either athlete for the cover but just make the voting between the two instead of making gamers feel like they have a voice in the matter. After all it is just a cover Bad job EA

Just because a player plays on a team with a losing record doesn't mean he's not deserving of the honor. I guess if some people don't keep the spotlight glaring on people who have the least chance of disappointing them, it makes them feel better about themselves.

This is insane. How did Peyton Hillis get the cover? I take absolutely nothing away from the guy, he is a good running back, and could someday wind up in the hall of fame, but now him just being a 4th year player, and playing for the Browns, I think Vick should've gotten it.

This cover vote as been twisted along with the game itself into something that its not. People have said Hillis is not qualified to be on the cover of Madden. Please show me where these qualifications have been laid out by Electronic Arts. Peyton Hillis is not applying for a job or trying to get into the hall of fame. He was in a competition to be on the cover of a game. His stats may not of been the best at his position in the league, I will agree with you there. However, they were far above average especially when you add in the fact that he played for the browns. I like the browns but last year they had one offensive scheme and that was to run Peyton right at down the other teams throats. Every team after the ravens game pretty much knew this and yet they could not stop him. He was exciting and fun to watch every game. You just waited to see what the guy would do next. Then you add in the facts that he was a humble and very respectful guy off the field as well. He has never had problems with the law or media.
Now, as far as sales go its not going to hurt Madden at all. If anything this could help sales due Hillis' large fan base in Ohio, Arkansas and Colorado. Some people in those places will buy copies of the game just for the fact that hes on it. I highly doubt however anyone will not buy the game because Hillis is on the cover. Its Madden its gonna sell games regardless.

Honestly, I think it is great Peyton Hillis got the cover. He is (possibly) a great up-and-coming player, he plays the game tough and has a no nonsense attitude, he is a great person off the field and humble, and I think he is just a great ambassador for the sport.
