Great news about the patch. It's nice to see the NHL series getting the same attention as NBA and MLB when it comes to patches. I think it shows the confidence 2k has in the series and ensures that we can look forward to NHL 2K11. Thanks!

If they patch only one thing (hopefully not) I just hope its smoothing out the animations to be more fluid and graceful.........Their movements are just too stilted and insect-like...it gives me a headache to play this game

As far as the "choppy animations", I thought this was something a company could patch. Wasn't it the game "Two Worlds" that had animation issues, then I read (if I'm correct) that they released a patch that fixed the animation choppiness.....?

Is there a set date for the patch yet?

Sorry, nope.

Darn! The longer it takes the patch to come out, the longer I have to wait to start my franchise.

I waited for the roster with Tavares and now I'm in December in my franchise. I can't imagine waiting for the patch. I'd return the game!

Why? Why not just play other games until the patch is released? Patience is a virtue many lack. These things take a little time, especially if you want them done right.

I could see mentioning something about a week ahead of time, but not two. Yes, everyone wants it done right, but nobody wants a dry hump for 2 weeks.

So by that logic, there is no need to release info about a game any sooner than a day or two before it's released. I mean why sit, "dry humping" over a game for months.

not true, but nice attempt at deductive reasoning, Sherlock

It's not happening on everyone's system because it only happens under certain Speed Setting conditions. Alot of people havent lowered the Player Speed under 40 or 50 (whatever speed triggers it) That is why it happens on some and not all

Once I changed the player speeds from my setting of 38 up to 50, I never had another referee freeze again...when it was at 38, it would freeze almost every game on a random faceoff

Where the **** were you? People did that too.

Besides where is all of this "info" about the patch? What's it supposed to do? Do you know?

Well, you should know Dafly that 2K isn't going to release a list of "what's going to be fixed" before they fix it. I'm sure however they wanted people to know that they are working on a patch so they don't abandon the game prematurely(which most probably already have).

but it is time to start incorporating what we hockey fans like and that is eas gameplay.
No, If I wanted to play EA Hockey, I would, and I do. I rather enjoy the fact that each have a different style and feel to their gameplay. The two best things VC can do for their hockey game is smooth out the controls and the animations. If they can do this for or even before 2K11, they will be well on their way. The goalies and making the default settings more realistic would be the next two major improvements needed. It kind of sucks spending so much time tweaking sliders. I can't believe I just said that

the player movement is terrible and not very responsive and how many have you tried to shoot the puck in front of the goalie and it don't happen. that happens alot to me the player has to do some kind of iso move before he will shoot.
I believe this is because 2K made so that players actually have to be in reasonable position to shoot the puck. They can't just contort their body any way as in EA and pull off the shot. It's actually something I'm rather glad to see and something that bothers me with EA's shooting the puck. It generally doesn't matter which way you are facing, if you have control of the player you want to shoot, he will shoot the puck.

I totally agree on this. However, I think there are a number of situations where the puck and the puck carrier should be separated after a hit and because of the current puck "magnetism", that doesn't happen. As a result, you get times where a player gets pinballed around and you have no control over them for a few seconds, which can be frustrating and just looks and feels odd in general. I've tried bumping up the hitting effectiveness, but that doesn't seem to affect the puck loosness. Imo, the lack of puck retention adjustability is something sorely missing from 2k10.

More loose pucks wouldn't hurt either.
Both games have their achilees' heel defensively that are equally damning.. in 2K the Dmen back up too much and get out of position with the missed stick check, and in NHL10 the defenders still can't defend cross crease and they will randomly leave their position to chase the puck carrier leaving an entire side of the net undefended.

The 2k10 goalies are actually ok animation-wise, what kills them right now is the constant diving poke-check, failure to play angles correctly, and the sliding out of position on saves. Seems like this could be patchable since the animations are pretty solid.

"For the patch we are doing something really cool with stick sweeps, in relation to stick collision, which should reduce the amount of lame trips, while also reducing the amount of successful sweeps through players' legs."

Looks like that's one of the things the patch is going to improve/fix. It was mentioned on the 2khockey.net forums.

LOL all the other problems in the game and THAT is what they are addressing?

Should be LOL'ing at yourself for not reading correctly.

Why do you assume that is the only thing the patch is addressing? My post did say 'one of' and the quoted comment is from a discussion revolving around stick sweeps and poke checks. It's not from some official statement about everything the patch is changing.
