Football Manager 2010 News Post

Sigames have just released the Football Manager 2010 gold demo. Please post your impressions here.

Quote:
"We are absolutely thrilled to announce the immediate availability of the FM 2010 Gold Demo. That’s right; it’s here, earlier than expected!

All of us here at SI believe that FM 2010 is our best game yet, but we know that you will be the judge of that and welcome your feedback. So let us know what you think of it on these forums.

We have always worked closely with the community to help us shape Football Manager, but I’d like to take the opportunity on behalf of everybody at SI to thank all those involved in the beta testing programme and to all of you for continuing to support us.

Over the past 12 months we’ve taken some risks by changing the way we work in an attempt to deliver you better games from the get go. We think we’ve achieved that starting with FM 2010 and we intend to go from strength to strength.

Onto the FM 2010 Gold Demo and all the details. The demo comes in two flavours, both “Strawberry” and “Vanilla”. The strawberry demo is the full package and complete experience, the vanilla demo is a light version which has been stripped down and is significantly smaller in size."

Anyone else having issues installing the Strawberry demo for Mac?

try checking out some of the threads on the SI forums if you can - you might find something to help you there.

It almost looks like I work for OS since they co-opted my post

Damn it. As if I don't have enough games to play already!

Things I like

- tab feature is really intuitive
- match graphics are much better now (there's a crowd!)
- tactical features are insane
- some of the press conference stuff is cool (but will probably get old quickly)

That being said, I don't see myself spending the $40. I can live with '09.

I have never tried a Manager game, football or futbol. Do you actually play or do you simply do roster/squad changes and let the CPU play?

You do not play the games. You simplay manage the team.

This could be the best FM to date I think. Only been messing with it for the past hour, but I'm very impressed. Love the new layout, much easier to navigate the entire game.

Can't wait until the 30th. Already have it bought on Steam.

Gonna take me a while to adjust to the new layout, but I'm liking what I see so far. Love the fact that I can instruct a player (like Robinho) to play out wide and cut inside.

One thing that's really impressing me is the pre-match meetings and their accuracy.

As an example, I (FC Copenhagen) travelled to AaB. During the pre-match meeting, the assistants informed me that AaB concedes a lot during the 31-45 minute range, and that sticking in the 4-4-2 will give my the best chance of success.

Sure enough, I scored twice in that timespan after falling behind to take a 2-1 lead into half. After scoring early in the 2nd half, I decided to ignore their advice and drop into a 5-3-2 at the 75th minute mark. AaB then scored twice late to equalize (although one was on a BS penalty).

It was pretty damn impressive. The match engine also seems a lot more fluid, and if it makes any sense, zoomed in. Now I can really see the animations occur while last year, even in the 3D mode, it was more of just two players jumping up and a certain result occurring. Now the defender gets above the striker and knocks the ball away, or the keeper runs across the goalmouth before jumping for the ball as it hits his fingertips and goes into the net.

I also really like how they have the home/away support and for TV matches they only sell seats on one side of the stadium if its not going to be a sellout. I'm probably going to end up buying this heh.

How long does the demo last?

# 11 theaub @ 10/15/09 11:35 PM
It was December 31st last year so I figure its the same this time around.

I played the demo through two games and uninstalled it. Not cause I didn't like it though. I just dont want to play too much until Oct 30th. Want it to be fresh and new, and I hate signing all these players I plan to go after once the real game is out.

That's why I do it with a team that I'll never use in the real game.

I'll create an in-depth NASL and use TFC/Canada, and then another lower level management one. For the demo I used Copenhagen and I'll probably do one with Newcastle too.

I was thinking of going with Newcastle in my first game and bring them back to the Premiership. That or Sunderland. Usually go with my Favorite team Man Utd but I want a challenge straight out of the gate.

Just finished the demo.Managed to put Sevilla on the top of Primera, just the point above Barca and 2 above Real.Half season that is, till Dec 26th.
Im very satisfied with what i saw.Game is alot more polished than 09.It is noticeably faster than 09, although you can only play demo with small DB.But as far as im informed, game engine is optimized much better this year, so it should run much smoother now.
Biggest new feature for me is tactic wizard.Very smooth and intuitive, it saves alot of times and nerves as slider micromanaging can get tedious. And best part is that if you dont like the tac wiz, you can always do it old fashion way, ticking the sliders.Talking about giving an options to users.
Touchline shouts are also new feature, and they work very well. Now you can tweak your formation on the fly, w/o entering tactic screen, and your team actually applies instructions on the pitch, so it isnt just cosmetics.
ME is alot smoother than before, ther is no corner bug, action on the pitch looks alot better and more believable than before.
Only minus is that keepers doesnt seem to dive during penalties. They always stay in the middle. No biggie for me.
There are alot new things added, like player`s biographyis, press confrenece when introducing new signings, backroom advice where your coaching stuff dissects your next opponent providing helpfull tips and second opinion, and stuff.
I cant wait for this game to drop, it will get me hooked instantly.

I read on their site that the demo save game will be loadable in the final version.

Doesn't matter to me. I need to start a game with a lot of leagues and huge DB loaded. So continuing a quick start doesn't excite me.

Anywhere I could read more detail about this, wondering if I can make MLS like real counterpart. Also wonder if their is option to add expansion teams to leagues?
