News Post

We're about eight hours into day one of open trading for Operation Sports Fantasy Football '09. The early returns? Low priced sleepers have brought in the biggest gains while backup QBs have seen the biggest hits. Here are some examples:

Biggest gains (as of 5:20pm ET):
  • Cadillac William: Yes, I bragged earlier about my fantasy acumen and quick thinking to buy Cadillac low, now that he's been named the starting tailback in TB. Though the dollar increase is small ($3.00 to $6.01), a 100%+ gain is pretty big.
  • Mike Bell - With the injury to Pierre Thomas and the poor fantasy results of Reggie Bush's last two years, Bell becomes a sleeper to get a decent amount of touches in a high-powered offense. ($3.00 to $5.34, +78.04%)
  • Chris Henry - Henry has had promise for years and now it looks like he may deliver. He was a bargain at $4.50 and now, at $7.31 (+62.35%) he's giving his owners some nice returns before the season even starts.

Biggest declines (as of 5:20pm ET):
  • Donte Stallworth - I get the feeling he's going to struggle this year. You know, not playing and all. ($5.00 to $4.28, -5%)
  • Alex Smith - With Shaun Hill starting in San Fran, Smith becomes a very high-priced clipboard holder and, thus, not a very profitable buy.
  • Kellen Clemens - Sanchez is the man in New York (New Jersey - we don't want credit for that team) those who took a flier on Clemens didn't lose much dollar-wise, ($5.00 to $4.74) but took a good hit in percentage (-5.03%).
Players to watch tonight -
WR Santonio Holmes - Can Santonio stay hot seven months after making one of the biggest catches in Super Bowl history? He's currently down 1% ($16 to $15.84)

Tennessee Defense - Shouldn't be a high-scoring game tonight...buy low ($11.61)?

RB Willie Parker - He's already on the rise (+3.88%) due to Coach Tomlin's assurance that he's the man in The Steel City. But the Titans' defense is stingy. Should you sell high already?

I find it funny that Garrett Hartley has increased in value even though the guy is suspended for the first 4 games of the season, I guess some people arent doing their homework.

LOL, Im up 9.30 so far with 2.00 still left in my bank but I doubt Im going to make any moves before week 1 ends. Chris Henry (+2.82) and Ray Rice (+2.22) certainly have helped, not to mention Greg Olsen and his +1.51.

Im up 6.10 right now. I made about 10 trades today lol. Where is Pierre Thomas with his -$1.50 loss?

Its funny because if Mike Bell comes out and is anywhere near average then watch the run on Thomas after the game Sunday as people assume he will return next week and his value will be extremely low for a starting RB making him an acceptable risk at that point. Hell, Im tempted to use some of the money I made today and picking him up as he cant drop much more I wouldnt think.

EDIT- Scratch that, Thomas is still at 21.93 and thats still way too high for a RB sharing carries in NO with Reggie Bush, no thanks.

Help me if I'm not understanding the concept of this competition...

- The bottom line is to score the most fantasy points with the starters on your roster.

- You win nothing based on how much money you "make" or increase in regards to your roster value.

- The point of increasing your roster value is to "sell high" so that you can upgrade a position.

- A good strategy is to grab solid starters and a couple of sleepers (buy low) players. Then sell the "sleepers" when they increase in value. Then drop a solid performer and combine their cash with what you made from the sleeper sale to purchase I higher rated player. Thus, improving your ability to score more fantasy points.

Yes, that seems to be one of the good strategies. And you are spot on with the other 3 points as well.

Not bad if I do say so myself.

Holmes - "stayed hot"

Titans - low scoring and put up big fantasy points

Parker - yuck - hope y'all sold high.

Interesting, so you could technically get some control over the market by consistently proposing people watch or pick up players that are buy low candidates, of whom you already have, thus driving the price up allowing you to sell and make money consistently.

I appreciate your concern over the legitimacy of the game and its resulting quality. While, technically, you are correct: my pieces and advice could certainly drive the market one way or another. And yes, that market could have a positive impact on my team. I thik there needs to be some amount trust that this would in no way drive my decisions on who to discuss in any way.

If there's any way for me to prove that, tangibly, I'm all ears. Otherwise I hope you understand that while the ability to sway this market with my opinions exists, I am simply doing what I've been asked to do by Operation Sports - provide visitors with as much informaiton about this game as possible, answer any questions therein, and give fantasy advice. I am really only playing the game so that I have access to how the game works and have an inside perspective. Again, I'll completely remove myself from any qualification for prizes.

I think that just about answers any quesitons and, in regard to the other thread, I did immediately asssume you were talking of me. If I was incorrect, I apologize for the assumption.

Let's close the issue. If you have other questions or suggestions, please feel free to PM me.

I wasnt specifically talking about you, once you mentioned not being eligible for prizes then I didnt even have a reason to question you. I just didnt want other guys to try it as it could really hurt the league but at the end of the day the other owners have to be able to identify this and choose to follow it or not knowing what the outcome could be either way. I agree, we can just move forward from here and see how things play out.

So far, I really, really like it. I've been checking it more than any other league.

I would tell my strategy, but I don't want to give it away. My team's value is 213 and I have a balance of 48 to spend. I really dont think I've made 60 bucks in a day and a half. Anybody else recognizing this?
My teams value is 217.38 but I only have 2.00 to spend so clearly Im not doing something right here. I could sell off some players but I would still have to replace them anyways. I would say you did a hell of a job putting your team together if you have a value of 213.00 with 48.00 still left to spend, thats incredible, imo.
