News Post

I just read this article on ESPN.com and it gave me some laughs. (Warning, nostalgia factor is high for the older gamers).

Quote:
"T.J. Houshmandzadeh is not going to move to the back of the Madden cruiser. Not for you. Not for anyone. And he's prepared to suffer in the name of justice. Last month, the Seattle Seahawks wide receiver announced that he would boycott "Madden 10" because he isn't satisfied with his in-game rating.

Even though it's 91 overall.

Even though that makes Houshmandzadeh the sixth-best receiver in the NFC.

Even though his route-running, catching, toughness and stamina ratings are 95 or higher.

Even though the real-life Houshmandzadeh is 31 years old, finished with less than 1,000 receiving yards last season and averaged just 9.8 yards a catch despite playing next to Chad Ochocinco.

Indeed, it's highly probable that Houshmandzadeh is overrated in "Madden." Which would put him in grand company. As is the case in real-life athletics (see Shockey, Jeremy and Beckham, David), the sports video game world is rife with overvalued individuals: players whose God-like digital doppelgangers are vastly superior to their flesh-and-blood, merely mortal counterparts."

Awesome article. I remember many of those football guys. Yes, Coates was that bad.... I could never use him in APF.

That article is funny. I love the Houshemanzadeh diss to start it off. It's so true. The guy is a decent receiver, but he's not a top 10 receiver, but the game makes him out to be one, yet he still complains about his rating? Wtf is that? T.J., you're simply not that fast! Deal with it!

i thought 2k8 mike ditka was more ridiculous than coates...granted ditka was gold and coates silver, but still ditka was like earl campbell after the catch, jerry rice before, and he blocked like a 300 lb guy running over little kids...

i didnt think bure was that ridiculous in nhl...we played the heck outta that game and never had to 'outlaw' the canucks (the red wings with federov, bruins with bourque and sweeney on D, and a couple other teams matched up OK)

Blazers PF Rasheed Wallace in NBA Inside Drive (the original, I think 2002) was unstoppable on his 45 degree turnaround jumper...i used to drop 80 ppg on my friends with him (I know I am a horrible friend)

In T.J. 's defense, who was his QB last year? Exactly. With a decent QB this year he'll be a top flight receiver this year.

I'm so sick of athletes being legends in their own minds.

T.J. is good. But its not like he's a freaking Hall of Famer.

A 91 as real good. In fact, I think its a bit high. He needs to shut up!

Remember way back in the old Madden's when you could blanket Jerry Rice by putting Reggie White on him in coverage?

Sometimes I miss that.

I wonder if there is any reason you couldn't now?

It's a toss up between Vick and Randall Cunningham in Tecmo Super Bowl. Bo Jackson was ridiculous, but at least he wasn't passing endzone to endzone AND running at hyper speed

He's not complaining that he's a 91. He is however, boycotting madden because they gave him a 81 speed rating (which is absurd). There are about 5 or 6 TE's in the game that are FASTER than him. THAT is why he's complaining. Has nothing to do with his overall rating. Notice that the person referred to all his other attribute ratings EXCEPT speed (THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE IN MADDEN). It basically renders him useless in the game if you ask me. You mean to tell me that 6 TE's are FASTER than T.J. Who'sYaMama?

It sounds reasonable and acceptable!
Operation sometimes can make it worse!

Weird. Didn't expect to see myself in that article.

Here's a couple that snuck underneath the radar:

Tomas Sandstrom in NHL 92 (unstoppable shot from the right wing)
Paul Ysebaert in NHLPA 93 or NHL 94 (inexplicable; I always assumed that someone accidentally gave him Yzerman's ratings)

I'd be willing to bet Greg Olsen is.
