Gamesindustry has the scoop.

"Shares in Take-Two rocketed yesterday on more rumours of an impending acquisition announcement, jumping over 12 per cent on the day and over 22 per cent since last Wednesday, to trade at USD 9.45."

Who do you think it could be?

EA and Activision are the likely suspects.

# 2 Goffs @ 04/14/09 08:28 AM
EA again most likely...

Whoever it is, if they pay less than $24.95 a share (which they will...probably at least half that)...there will be no wonder why Take Two is being dealt away. :\

I sincerely hope a deal doesn't ruin 2K Sports...but I have a feeling it will

Is this like an April thing or something ?? Didn't this happen last April as well ?

I don't even care anymore at this point. Just make it go away.

Well I don't think it's EA honestly. I think it's going to be Activision most likely, but could be Disney. After all Disney was eyeing EA right. Maybe they decided to go for the smaller fish first. I just wonder if everyone is gonna hate on Activision, the way they did EA for trying to buy them out.

I agree with this guy, I just hope this doesn't ruin the 2K brand, but unfortunatley I'm sure it will.

Why not eh?

I'd say the chances are strong that it's EA or one of the big non-gaming media companies wanting to get in on the action. News Corp., Viacom, etc. are all having some serious issues (or will be) financial wise and it'd be no surprise if they try to expand their business models into a new realm.

How can 2k be ruined? It already is trash.

I'll just be kind and ignore the useless posts here that are whoring for attention. I'm assuming it might be Ubisoft to expand portfolio seeing that they're seriously lacking a sports realm and really need to come up with a new division to make money. I hope that whoever it is, 2K finally has enough money to stop patching stuff and seriously rebuild things better.

Amen to that, someone needs to take 2k and give them a respectable budget to grow and restart where they began, and that was with solid products. Because right now everything they released in the 2k9 series is terrible.

I really don't see EA wasting their time with this again. Take Two did nothing, but insist on a higher price, that obviously wasn't what the company is worth. I just don't see EA wanting to bargain or deal with that again. Much like the whole Microsoft/Yahoo fiasco.

As far as Ubisoft goes, I don't see them buying Take Two outright, unless Take Two is actually willing to work with them. I would think more of a merger deal there.

I think it could be Activision or Disney, either one would most likely be a great help for the company and it's franchises. Like most others, I would like to see their sports titles and such remain in tact no matter what happens.

if it's activision ill be a happy guy if they don't blow up nba 2k, they would then sell starcraft and nba 2k

Yup! NHL2K10 is on the verge of being a masterpiece. I can feel it.
But then EA will buy 2K and poof, it's gone.

Just like what happened to Fox Championship 2001 and NHL2K4 when Kush took over.

I hope it's Ubisoft or Activision.

Hopefully it isn't somebody who would destroy the 2K sports brand, but someone that will feed money into it. Needs a serious revamping. Doesn't VC make all the 2K Sports games now?

I hope EA buys it so the EA and 2k developers can merge together to make complete games instead of half a** crap

# 17 stlstudios189 @ 04/16/09 06:16 PM
we do not want EA to buy them and merge all that would mean is EA is buying up the competion and will still make their games the way they make them. (some are good, some not so good) without competion things get stale. Just think if McDonalds bought the Rights to Hamburgers and then bought out Chick-fil-a, and Taco Bell. All we would have is McDonald's and boy would that suck bad.

From a Investor Standpoint, I cannot believe they shot down EA's Offer. Take Two is around $10 share right now, EA offered $26 a share, they should have taken the money and ran.

If your in the stock trading Business, Take Two looks like a pretty good deal right now though, Another major GTA announcement will probably push the stock up a few dollars.

See your looking from the bias fan point of view. I doubt visual concepts would get there and do nothing or not improve the series. The guys at EA are already doing major improvements to the 10 series. If Visual Concepts were there to help especially in the ART and Detail departments, majority of the games would be great, and with the 2k's presentation improvements! A lot of people would stop complaining and start cheering.

We have all been bitching and crying over 2k not having the budget to do what they need to do and not having the technology. Well Mike Wang has already said EA has the resources. If more devs joined the team from 2ksports camp. I can finally see the improvements. Not to mention all of them have worked with Peter Moore when the Dreamcast came alone. It would be like a reunion and sports gaming would improve for everyone.

That is the least likely of scenarios. Not the EA buying 2k part, but the merging together "to make complete games instead of half A** crap". EA will simply disband 2k sports and eliminate their sports competition, that's all they care about. Some EA employees may care, but the people making decisions ONLY care about what makes the most sense from a profitability standpoint. Eliminating their competition for sports games makes ALOT of sense, from a profitability standpoint. They can then afford to spend less resources for, at a minimum, the same sales revenue, likely even more.
