Just picked it up at the Rockefeller Center Gamestop in NYC. Now, how the hell am I going to get through the rest of the work day. Cough, cough. Think I'm coming down with something....

I'd just like to know what the general flow is of the game on the field, can you change the speed (it looked sped up in the videos), and a longshot - sliders?

I'll hang up and listen - glad to hear a few people are getting it already.

so far let a demo game play over lunch..

Marlins @ Tigers
Brewers @ Orioles

- both parks looked great
- game ran fast
- animations of the players are smooth
- PA announcers is subtle and the background crowd is nice.
- ambient menu music

# 11 Dubsonic @ 01/27/09 02:36 PM
- looking at the menu system.. its does not seem to be nearly as confusing a the 2 reviews made it out to be.

by the way got my copy Gamestop Edmonton

What I really want to know is how the sim engine is. I know it might be hard to tell based on very early impressions, but are games realistic with enough variety(close games, low scoring games, high-scoring games, blowouts etc..) Also, how does the CPU handle its lineups. Does it use relievers effectively, pinch hitters/runners etc... In game strategy? Will the computer steal at a realistic rate based on the team? Will they try the sac bunt at realistic times? Will they go for the hit and run sometimes? If the sim engine is off then this game will be worthless to me. Thanks in advance for any input.

Just shot straight into the menus to get to spring training....so I could see on field gameplay

Stadiums are awesome looking just, gameplay is a lot of fun

Aramis Just hit a two run home off of Webb in the first spring training game. I have a seen a rope up the middle, a texas leaguer over the 2nd basemens head, A smash over the left field wall( yes they do show where the ball lands = awesome ) and a lazy pop fly foul ball

I stole 2nd base with Soriano, and it zooms in with a pip to show it up close....the animations are very smooth on the field

Menu system so far is not that bad, but I zoomed through a lot of it, and let the cpu do it, so I could get to the gameplay. The on field menues during a game are very easy

How is the trade logic? To me, this is pretty much the most important part of this game.

Honestly, I say yes. I am a baseball junkie, but am having a damn fun time so far.

How is the manager mode? One of the reviewers that reviewed it before release called it "worthless." Can somebody tell me why they might have said that or do you think that his opinion was unfounded.

I'm still very curious to hear how the CPU opponent handles in-game decisions and strategy. This is an area that has killed many a baseball game in the past for me.

Ok....so far the speed of the game is great, I have seen a smoke to the wall and the guy just got into 2nd, I have seen really nice hit variety. There are a good number of strikeout, BUT....so far after 4 innings...not one walk for either Webb or Zambrano

So far, beginning in the Astros offseason: offered 2 trades so far -

Oakland: OF's Emil Brown and Carlos Gonzalez for OF Hunter Pence

Mets: OF Trot Nixon & 2b Luis Castillo for Pence (had to laugh at that one).

These are a couple of the things I've read off the 2k forums, so take it for what it is:

"You start at the end of the 2008 off-season. Teams begin to make ridiculous trades like BJ Upton to Houston (the Rays made 6 trades in the first off-season on my copy) and you basically have to re-sign your entire team because they say that almost everyone's contract is expired."

Also,
"Scott Kazmir got traded to the Marlins for Dan Uggla was the first trade I encountered."

I am also seeing a lot of reports over there about ridiculous free agent demands as well as contracts being way off...as you can see somewhat from the post above about the Rays trading. Here's an excerpt from a guy about contracts/free-agents:

"I just got the game an hour ago for Xbox 360 at Best Buy. So far, I've just played around a bit, but I'm going to be honest- it's not what I expected. I've played OOTP and Baseball Mogul and they are much better than this.

The only cool thing in this so far is being able to watch the games and manager your team during them, the free agency is very unrealistic. Chipper Jones wanted 25 million a year for 7 years and he is 36 years old- so I had to release him, when in real life, his contract did not expire this off-season.

For baseball enthusiasts, you will be disappointed when you find out the rosters and contracts situations, but I've only played it for an hour so I don't want to be too quick to judge."
