Pasta Padre has the scoop.

"Over the last week Iíve been tracking MLB Front Office Managerís status on Gamestop. For reasons unknown the 360 version disappeared off the site while the PS3 and PC versions remained. Now there have been a couple new developments that could suggest the price of the game has been changed from the $39.99 it was expected to be."

my xbox magazine gave it a TERRIBLE review...states that no trade clauses are ignored and the in-game managing is pointless. sounds like a good idea gone bad...

Really?
I was hoping this game would be a nice representation for the GM/Manager crowd.
Do you by chance have a link...or maybe scan the article?
Thanks.

I hope the trade logic is good, I was watching the video on gamestops website and it showed on an email that the cubs traded Rich Hill for Ian Kennedy, Phil Hughes, and Johnathan Abla-something(I won't attempt to speel it).

sorry, i don't have a link and our scanner no longer works. but the magazine just showed up the other day and i can share a few details i thought might be helpful from it:

verdict: 5.0

+ gets into the nerdy side of baseball with stuff like arbitration and the rule five draft
- poor menu sorting options
- worthless manager mode

"there's an onfield manager mode...but you never feel like you're really affecting the outcome of the action."
"traded eric byrnes...he has a no-trade clause in real-life, even though you can negotiate NTC's when signing free agents."
"poor sorting options in the menus - like painful email management and categories that don't remember how you'e ordered them after you'e clicked deeper into the interface."

Thanks mk...

That's unfortunate.
Let's just hope(like in the thread in the 2K section)...that it's just that someone who can't get into the bones of MLB front office play.
(the "nerdy side" comment has me thinking that might be the case)

I'll wait for more reviews. I may or may not buy this title right away. But, I love the concept. The review that said "worthless management mode, you don't really seem to affect the outcome" could be misleading. In real life the GMs and managers don't get to decide the action....

but the article also said (and i didn't type it out because...well, i was sick of typing - ha!) that REPEATEDLY the orders given to players were ignored.

like you, i want more info. and i won't buy this right away...

See, stuff like this makes me wonder if they were actually reviewing a FINISHED version of the game. Seems pretty early for a print mag to have a full review when the game isn't coming out for a while still. Has the game gone gold yet?

If the game has No-trade-clauses in there, seems like a bug that they'd be ignored when trading. Maybe Byrnes just agreed to the trade? NTCs do not mean the player CANNOT be traded, just that they have to agree to it. Even if it IS in the released game, it sounds like something that could be fixed with a patch, if they're gonna bother supporting this title beyond release.

I'm still gonna buy it on release. MLB 2K8 had tons of problems with the franchise mode, but I still found ways to enjoy it. If nothing else, the online fantasy league will be worth the price of admission, I think.

Developers don't think that way, at least not at the lower levels (ie, the designers, artists, and programmers that actually make the game). All devs set out to make good games. Sometimes they aren't given the resources to succeed, sometimes they just fail, but I've never been in meetings where someone's said, "Let's cut these features or ship these bugs because stupid consumers will buy this game anyway." I have been in meetings where someone's said, "Let's cut these features or ship these bugs because otherwise we'll miss our dates, won't get paid, and probably lose our jobs, " however.

Dr, were you ever in a meeting to know why they don't test games in cpu/cpu mode? This would greatly enhance the correct play of the A.I.. Also, we wouldn't have to test sliders for a year. Just wondering. Thanks my friend.

i didn't create the game, only sharing what the article stated...and the game is getting some pretty mediocre reviews from what i've seen.

Do managers, let alone GMs, ever directly affect the outcome of a game?!
Agreed. I'm actually happy that players don't always listen to commands. Maybe we can even blast them on the media (would be a nice addition to the game if 2k wants to make a FOM 2011 or something).

There's not enough information on the NTC players. Like you said, the player could have agreed to the trade. Maybe he demanded one.

As for the manager not affecting the outcome...it's a front office game. I really need to read a review from a text-sim gamer.

I thought that was a great deal for a video game to make.

Three young players being traded for a more experienced starter? You don't see that in video games. It would usually be something like Barry Zito for Rich Hill.

Instead, the Cubs were asking for two of the Yankees top pitching prospects and a highly rated minor leaguer in Albaladejo.

We also don't know the conditions of this trade. Rich Hill is closing in on arbitration. He is going to be 29, and despite some major problems in 2008, he had shown promise to be a good middle of the rotation arm. One could argue that the Yankees gave up too much.

But, I like it. Shows that teams value young prospects.

i just got the new gameinformer earlier today and they gave it a 3/10. the dude who reviewed it claims to be a fan of baseball and used words like "apocolyptic" , "failure", and "awfulness" lol. IDK ill still probably pick it up and see for myself.
