Videogamer has the scoop.

Quote:
"Take-Two has responded to EA's announcement that it does not intend to pursue an acquisition of Take-Two at this time.

Strauss Zelnick, chairman of the Board of Take-Two, commented: "We remain focused on creating value for our stockholders and our consumers. This has been our goal since EA launched its conditional and unsolicited bid six months ago, a bid which was repeatedly rejected by our stockholders. As part of that commitment, we remain actively engaged in discussions with other parties in the context of our formal process to consider strategic alternatives. We're especially proud of the success we've enjoyed over the past eighteen months and we remain confident in our ability to generate value for stockholders."

Take Two better know what they were doing, as EA's offer probably won't be topped, or even matched at this point.

GTA 4 sales are below expectation..

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/article...take-two-talks

and take two shares are now lower than before EA offered $25 a share...

I wouldnt mind Microsoft, but i am hoping Activision-Blizzard buys them. Then EA would really need to step up their game.

Both are plunging? Did you even read the article? TT fell almost 30% while EA went down just over 3%.

I'm not saying it sold poorly. In fact, they sold it to a higher percentage of ps3/360 console owners than San Andreas did last generation with more ps2's available. They also have yet to release the PC version.

The below expectation thing just shows that Rockstar and Take Two though this game would last longer, but sales have fallen off. I doubt the DLC helps much either, as if that interested buyers, they would have bought it months ago when it wasn't delayed until the end of the year or early 2009 yet.

Was thinking the same....and there are plenty of MS games that are quite good.

I don't care if it's MS or Activision, I just want one of them to compete for the bid for the NFL license so we can have a good football game again.

^^^^^

In this case, I would hope it went to MS. Theres no way EA could compete with MS for the NFL license. Of course being a former 360 owner, I'd be pretty upset if the NFL game became an exclusive.

^ Mean while TTWO's stock price is $15.43 vs. EA's 36.00 vs. ATVI's 14.12.

So how long before the great big video game industry bubble burst???

Q2 2009? Q3 2009?

Will it even make it that far?

I'm speaking from a purely fundamental view here, as I don't really pay attention to the numbers... But I just get the sense the already thin ice is cracking.

Walker sent another e-mail to a Players Inc. attorney that shows they snubbed a larger offer from Take Two to make sure EA nabbed the rights at below-market prices, allowing them to lock down professional football. "The per player price for most of these guys was tens of thousands of dollars less than what they were guaranteed by Take Two Interactive so itís a real coup that we were able to pull this off so cheaply," he wrote. "You have to remember that EA's total cost is only $200,000 per year. We know that Take Two offered six-figure deals to several former NFL players, so the total cost is millions below market prices."

Of course Take Two's stock is plunging, they cant make a NFL Football game was their Top Seller, and now they stopped making College Basketball. All of Take Two's sports games sold more then any of the EA games. I hope someone else buys out Take Two instead of EA, that would just bring Take Two down to EA's level, instead of bringing EA's level up.

I agree that Microsoft or Activision would make nice sports games to chanllege EA.

NO EA TAKEOVER

lol That is so false you should get your posting privileges taken away.

First off Take two did not buy Visual Concepts until after NFL 2k5 was released. Secondly, Wouldn't GTA 4 be Take Two's best selling game? Thirdly, EA Sports Outsells T2 for Most Sport Games.

well if it does, it would just mean more consolidation for Activision/Blizzard, Ubisoft, and EA. The little guys would get eaten up, while the big guys carve off the fat from their portfolios.

The big guys would feel it too though. A worst case scenario would take no prisoners, and the thing is a worst case scenario isn't that far off.

The current state of the industry has made it tough on publishers, which in turn has hurt the quality of product. A drop in the quality of product, along with general economic conditions, brings down the very thing which has made the industry so strong in the first place...

And that is: consumer demand and consumer interest.

If consumer demand and consumer interest start to falter, then the whole thing REALLY starts to tumble... And that's when landscapes start to change.

I'm guessing a total collapse is pretty unlikely, because I think consumer demand still has enough power behind it to keep things going for a while.

That being said, console makers need to be more careful next time around. They need to be one step ahead of this potential disaster and make their platforms easier to develop for so as to lessen the squeeze on publishers, and at the same time make them consumer friendly as well... Meaning that they are affordable, don't break after six months, and don't rely on a gimmick controller.

The only 2K titles to ever outsell EA titles have been been recent NBA 2Ks on next gen, and not by much. There was also NFL 2K5 on XBOX that outsold Madden 2005 on XBOX but the PS2 sales of Madden alone were more than double the total sales of NFL 2K5 for XBOX and PS2 combined. You're just spouting nonsense.

In case you didn' know, 2K's NBA series is the only one to ever turn a profit in the 2K Sports line.
