When will it end? CVG has posted an article that shows an analyst convinced EA will buy Take-Two.

Quote:
"EA and Take-Two's drawn-out acquisition dance has been dragging on since February of this year, but in the end, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter is certain EA will buy the Grand Theft Auto maker.

"We remain convinced that EA will prevail in its bid for Take-Two," said Pachter in a Friday investor note. "Now that EA has received FTC approval for the combination, the company is not under any pressure to keep the negotiations alive."

EA recently withdrew its offer of $25.74 per share, or around $2 billion total, to enter friendly talks with Take-Two regarding a buyout."

I've honestly never seen Pachter right on anything he says. And why does it seem like he's the only video game analyst out there?

Nothing matters until Take Two is officially bought. Be it EA,Ubisoft, whomever.

This is the same guy who said that he was absolutely CERTAIN, that the buy-out would happen before gta4's launch.

The problem is, no interviewer or anyone of clout within the industry made him account for his claims. No one called him on it. Some one should say "hey wait a minute Michael, you've been completely wrong on this before, so why should we listen to you and take anything you say on this with more than a grain of salt?"

IMO you can't say things with such vigorous conviction and simply say 'oh, i guess i was wrong', then go on to say something equally as strong on the SAME TOPIC. he hasn't even stated or admitted that he was wrong before, or even why he thinks he may have been mistaken. His claims are totally baseless, and worse for him, not to be taken seriously or given any attention at all.

A lot of the time, he doesn't even qualify his 'predictions' with "I think this will happen...", isntead he says "this will happen".

He is someone to be ignored, and shouldn't really have his job anymore since he's 180 degrees wrong most of the time.

In short: He doesn't know what he's talking about.

Yeah, I was unfortunately on the bus that was pretty convinced we'd see the buyout happen before the end of the summer...WHOOPS!

Honestly, I think Take Two is going to end up selling to someone, but right now I'm not as convinced as I was in March that the company they will be selling to is EA. There are only a cfew reasons why Take Two hasn't sold to EA yet, you can make up your mind which one is the more likely of the three:

1)Take Two has decided staying independent is the best route for their company, so no buyout of any kind.

2)Take Two feels the offer was too low and has a much higher price in mind for their company from EA.

3)Take Two is fielded competing offers from multiple buyout partners and is trying to push the price higher by getting one of the companies to blink.

At this point....whichever of the three it is, I'm just ready to get some closure. Guys saying anyone but EA buying out Take Two is a good thing, but you never know when a company will want to trim the fat and cut some franchises from the 2K Sports lineup. So the only guarantee we'll see 2K Sports games continue to be released is option #1

No one does for that matter, because the talks right now are confidential. It's all a bunch of meaningless speculation

Well, without a doubt a think the big delay has been the price EA is willing or not willing to pay. Good point about anyone else buying Take Two.

The only news I want to hear accompanying it will be that VC is bringing 2K Football and College Hoops back through EA's license.

One thing for sure is that the longer this drags out. The percentage of this buy out actaully happening gets less and less.

I think it's crap that this is happening now. EA throws money at the nfl and gets the license, then they say "hey lets strip them of the espn license while we are at it "(and do nothing with it btw), and then they just decide hell why don't we just buy the company. Is 2k still so much of a threat that they need to buy them to make themselves look good? IMO, the only sports game that 2k has rights to make that beats ea is basketball. sony's The show is far superior to 2k, and ea nhl is superior to 2k hockey. Is EA not going to be happy till they have the best(or only) sports game in each genre?

If NBA 2k goes, so goes vidya gaming bball.

# 12 Hendo1 @ 09/08/08 11:27 PM
I sincerely hope EA doesn't acquire T2.

If EA gets Take Two, it's the end of any decent Videogame basketball ever.

Hell...it's probably the beginning of the end of Videogame sports gaming period.

Everything will be wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide open gameplay.

Excuse me while I vomit at the thought of it.

Facts? Those are things that back up claims. Like yours.

Use them.

well that sucks

Obviously, EA wants to buy take two to eliminate the competiton. So if it happens, say goodbye to NBA2K, NHL2K, MLB2K, College Hoops and any other game that is direct competition for them.

I don't understand why people publish his "predictions"- he's rarely been right on any of his projections.

College Hoops has already been canceled months ago by Take Two.

he's an analyst for an investment firm. He sees current conditions and makes predictions on them. Hardly totally baseless. It's not like he predicts Apple will enter the console market or Nintendo is merging with Sony. If you actually read what he said in the original post article, rather than the headline, he says that since EA has FTC clearance for the buyout, they can just appeal to shareholders now.

Last we heard, EA had acquired something like 20% of TT shares just off the open market, and TT recently went to EA in hopes of getting them to up their offer. EA "walking" away and "pulling" the offer should eliminate much of the buyout bump to TT's stock price, and EA could just keep slowly buying shares off the open market. EA wants Take Two, and Take Two wouldn't want to end up being bought out for less than the earlier EA offer. That's why he feels the deal will get done. Both sides get what they want in a quicker, mutual deal.
