Joystiq is reporting that EA Sports is launching a sub-brand of its sports division called Freestyle.

"The first title releasing this September in this all-inclusive sports brand is the arcade-style boxing game with the family-friendly name FaceBreaker. Yup, there's no better title to launch a casual sports brand than a game called FaceBreaker."

Nobody saw this coming.
The only question is, how much of Peter Moores casual push will bleed over into EA sports regular line-up.

I've got no real problem with them looking to cash in on the rising casual market that has potential to get them more money than they could get from spending more resources on their stable of sports games. Sales going down, okay, just make more games for casual folks. It's just a business, and it puts them where a lot of people figure EA already is anyways.

Yea I think the Freestyle brand is just an evolution of the EA Sports division. It wouldn't make sense putting FaceBreaker in the BIG brand because it's not an "extreme" sport or whatever (same goes for NFL Tour etc in my mind) and EA Sports is simulation based so reconfiguring if they plan to do more of these games is simple logic. The name of the brand is meh though, not sure it really clears up what games will be there.
