that's the exact opposite of what i want

I'll reserve judgement until I see the finished product. If they are just going to simplify the control scheme or the menus, I have no problem with that.

What a strange statement. If you look at the Wii you would say, "Wow that's a bizarre controller" but yet it's very popular with the non-traditional gaming crowd because of the fun factor. If EA Sports wants to appeal to a wider audience they have to concentrate on the fun factor not on dumbing down the controls.

Maybe if EA Sports is really concerned their games aren't accessible enough they should be concentrating on publishing better instruction books or better tutorials. For example, pulling special moves with the right stick in FIFA is daunting but to my knowledge there is no tutorial within the game that shows you what moves with the joysticks will trigger special "tricks." Why not?

Uh-oh! Looks like they're focusing on the wrong stuff. Easy controls is NOT going to make non-gamers go out and buy Madden.

They need to be focusing on the realism.

i really hope so. and if it is any measure of EA's statement, NFL Tour was the most dumbed down version of football i've ever seen, and we all know how great that game is. I just don't understand how EA can show such a utter disregard for sim gamers.

It seems less and less likely I will ever enjoy an EA game again.

I just don't get why EA can't make a good sports game anymore.

They have more resources than Take Two, yet look at the comparisons of their products.(i.e. Nba Live Vs. Nba 2K8). When EA knows its beat, it tries to buy the liscences and then they have to be the only game in town.

Spineless, guess they're tired of getting outpreformed constantly by developers with only a fraction of the resources.

Heres to EA and another year of getting their tail whipped. How proud they must be.

oh jeez.

This just reiterates what Peter Moore said a week or 2 back, with the "the controllers intimidating" non-sense.
Compromising your product so that everyone is happy? yeah... this wont end well.

So are they doing this because they realize they can't make a better
sim product so they are giving up and going to dumb it down?

What is the age range of gamer they are targeting?
If they are going for the most gamers wouldn't that be younger, say 15-25.

It seems they are saying the controls are too tough and complicated but usually younger gamers can handle it.
With age you start to lose some reaction time so less buttons could be good for some I suppose, but not the majority.

I'm older than 25 but still love to play sports games, however I'm sure most gamers after 25 start to have more family/work
commitments and lose interest in playing.

I want to bash Peter Moore in the face with an aluminum bat.

well it says something about their intentions when they are looking away from hardcore fans who buy madden on day one each year for people who probably haven't bought it yet or haven't in years. For all the complaining the current fans do, at least they buy it. The casual people that Moore says complain about controls aren't the kind of people that hunt for this game in stores before the official release date. They also aren't the ones who would demand from EA what people here do.

I can see where madden fans are getting mad. This franchise is hitting its 20th anniversary and EA is moving away from the gamers that made it successful.

A company wants to expand their audience to sell more games? THE HORROR!!!

# 16 Eton Rifles @ 04/03/08 10:19 AM
Basically all you can do is not buy their games. That's the only way to get at EA at this point. I won't be buying Madden this year because I just don't like the gameplay. I'm not sure yet about NCAA football because I have hardly played it. I don't buy Live, Fifa among others.

Dumbing down product, meet orange.

If people actualy read what the guy says instead of spewing the same tired EA hate they would realize he doesn't suggest anything resembling dumbing down the product. Easier menus, more intuitive gameplay, and simpler controls are not examples of dumbing down the gameplay. But feel free to continue hating.

EXPAND THEIR AUDIENCE?

THEY JUST CUT A GOOD PORTION OF THEIR AUDIENCE BY OPTING NOT TO RELEASE MADDEN FOR THE PC!!!

I was a portion of their audience! I purchased Madden on the PC. Now, with their decision to abandon the PC market, they lost me as a customer.

So they are talking out of both sides of their mouth. They want to expand their audience, yet they cut the PC users out. Is it just me or does that not make sense?
