According to GamePro, the Wii version of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 is better than the 360 and PS3 versions of the game. Interesting.

Quote:
"Citing improved gameplay and better reviews, the lead designer of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 has proclaimed the Wii version superior to its Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 counterparts. European Project Lead Jon Murphy stated in an interview with Next Generation on Friday that Konami's commitment to fine-tuning the 2008 game was critical in making the Wii version a success."

It is! Plain and simple. It may not look as good, but it plays a much better and more interesting game of soccer.

I love the Wii version, it takes some getting used to, but it's a great example of what the Wii can bring to sports gaming.

I concur. It's the best sports game on the Wii and the best PES in years simply due to the amount of control you have and the ease of tactical gameplay.

Can you guys provide any info on this Champion's Road game mode? From what i've read it plays out similar to the main mode in UEFA Champions League 06/07...

The game isn't out here till the 11th, but i pre-ordered yesterday (for less than half price ).

Exactly, and it flies in the face of the naysayers who claim the Wii system only has bad ports with tacked on motion control...

I like what the ps2 versions offered content wise and ALL of the stadiums and weather variations are there on the Wii. Which to me is a great great surprise. what is an even bigger one is the fact that even though the new control with the wiimote and nunchuck has a STEEP learning curve it is an absolute addiction once you get the hang of it.

I HIGHLY recommend it howver hope that you give it the patinece it needs to fully understand it and be consumed by it. I probably won't ever go back to a soccer game now on any other next gen system UNLESS they make it 50 percent better than what we've seen already on ps3 with pes2008 and fifa08 and euro2008 respectively...

Great thougts. Does the wii version have the edit mode as well?

I picked it up yesterday along with Mario Kart, but only played one game. It's certainly the most innovative soccer game i've played, but it hasn't wowed me just yet...although my first goal was an awesome deflected shot from 22 yards or so which looked very niiiice (it was actually going wide left, but deflected into the far right corner, wrongfooting the keeper totally!).

Graphics are shocking...but i think i've just been spoiled by the 360 graphics tbh. I also haven't played a Wii game that's aimed to have realistic graphics either, so i've been spoiled by the graphics of other 'cartoony' looking Wii games too.

You can only edit team names and player names. You can't update squads, which sux because the rosters are totally out of date (based on August 2007 i think, Babayaro and Solano were still on the Newcastle team for example).

You can still edit names and EPL team names. But since the camera is pulled back so far, it doesn't matter during gameplay (in terms of kits and logos). Still, this is one of the areas that they can improve on in next year's version. I will say that after playing the Wii and PS3 version, I much prefer the Wii version. It's the most fun I've had with PES since the original Winning Eleven 6 first came to the US.
