News Post

As the regulars of this news post/thread can see, we now have the ability to post in any Forum we wish to and keep it on the home page. So I figure, what better place to put this post, than right here in the OS Neighborhood. For those unfamiliar with this daily post, it's just something I came up with a long time ago, to generate discussion and get to know our readers. I'll post various interesting links, "What's Up?" w/ me, Question of the Day (commonly referred to as QOTD) and birthdays (make sure you update your profile, if you want it listed).

We launched the redesign on Saturday with great success. Although we had a few hiccups and had to add more processor power to both servers, it seems like the new redesign is getting high remarks. A lot has gone into this, through ideas from the staff (old and current) and plenty of long nights. I'd like to take this time to personally thank all of them and all of our readers for making this site what it is today.

Hope to see some new readers joining in on the discussion, we have quite a few regulars that post in this daily thread, so make sure you join in on the conversations!

What's up with you?

QOTD:

My personal favorite new thing is that we have a podcast because A) I'm on it, and B) You can listen to it right from the front page by clicking the "Open in New Window" button which launches the media player. Then, you can listen to it as you browse all the other new stuff OS has to offer!

QOTD: I really like the podcast too, but being able to cast our own votes towards a game rating is very nice.

I like the reader scores and hype scores. This is going to be really useful when I am looking at an old game and thinking about picking it up.

Interesting weekend. We were at our neighborhood Irish pub and former Presidential candidate (and my Congressman) Dennis Kucinich was there. There was a fundraiser or campaign meeting going on. We didn't have our camera or otherwise we would've gotten our picture with him.
Didn't do a whole lot else on the weekend. Went bowling Saturday night and to an Academy Awards party last night. Updated my NBA 2k8 rosters with all of the new trades (especially the Cavs).
So far so good with the new Cavs. Overall, I think this will make them a better team because it makes them deeper and more consistent. You never knew what you would get from Gooden and Hughes.

QOTD: The weekly preview and the Podcast are probably my two favorite so far.

What's happening on wednesday massnole?

QOTD: Being able to cast votes for upcoming and current games is going to be a very good feature though I worry about "haters" bringing down some games' scores.

What's up: Hm I had a quiet weekend, watched an old MNF game. Howard Cossell sure knew how to bring down a game at times. At halftime he went into this long sad speech about an ex baseball player who was in hospital for a brain hemmorhage then said "and now back to football". I was like "Man, i'm all sad how can I concentrate on football!" I then had the worst thing happen to me. One of my hearing aid batteries died so I went to change it. Sadly the tube that connects to the hearing aid broke off and hence i'm without hearing on my dominant ear. Hopefully I get it fixed today. It sucks though, as I had planned to watch a couple movies last night.

Oh and i'm actively searching for a job again this time through the CNIB. (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) Now that i'm a lot more physically fit some of the jobs they'll find for me will actually be do-able.

QOTD: OS seems a whole lot faster to me, which is very good news.

Whats Up: I have an interview with Aflac today, let's hope it goes well.

We record the podcast on Wednesday's at 2pm eastern. We should have it posted Wednesday nights provided my real life work schedule doesn't get in the way.

I didn't even notice the podcast so I'll have to check that out when I have some time. I haven't really had enough time to search around the whole site yet but the whole look and layout is very nice.

QOTD: Yeah, I like the podcast. It's right there and accessible. Good discussion too.

I, too, am sick. I think I'm coming off it though, which is good. I'd rather be in school learning!

QOTD: The look/layout is nice, but just having a sense of community after a(nother) merger is nice. Having the same faces (avatars?) and Mods will be nice rather than going all corporate. Good job on the rebuild!

QOTD:

Love the new layout, mini-avatar is a cool addition, comment and votes cool feature. Podcasts gives me something to listen to while at work.

Great work guys

QOTD: I like the new layout of the front page, but I don't know how to do the mini-avatar yet

EDIT: Nevermind...good ol' search feature comes in handy yet again

But what about the reader scores and hype scores? What do you like about those?
