Madden NFL 08 Preview (Wii)

NintendoWorldReport has posted their preview of Madden NFL 08.
"Madden veterans will be interested to hear that Franchise Mode (play as one team over several seasons) and Superstar Mode (play as one player over several seasons, starting with their rookie year) are included. Those familiar with last yearís Wii edition will find expanded gesture controls (you can now call one of four audible plays by flicking the Nunchuk up, down, left, or right, for instance), but a lower degree of gesture complexity across the board that should improve playability."

FlatOut Ultimate Carnage Screenshots (360)

Xboxyde has posted some FlatOut Ultimate Carnage screenshots.
"Bugbear and Empire Interactive release a new bunch of happy screenshots for Flatout Ultimate Carnage, X360 remake of their old-gen Flatout 2. And for those who would like to see more of the game, remember we have a lot of videos from the preview version of the game."

8Ball Allstars Q&A (DS)

N-Europe has posted a Q&A session with Mick Waites, Producer of 8Ball Allstars.
N-Europe: "What's in the game that makes it different from all the Flash-based pool games that are available on the Internet for free? Talk us through what makes this particular game unique."
Mick Waites: "Well, they donít run on the DSÖ But seriously, our game offers a more in-depth experience. For starters, 8Ball Allstars is 3D when most flash games Iíve seen are 2D. The control system offers a more natural feel than swinging a mouse around or clicking a button at the right time. In addition to that, we have 8 different rule sets, tournaments, a challenge mode, many different AI opponents, tables of different shapes and sizes not to mention all the multi-player modes and the customisation options available in 8Ball Allstars."

Wii is as Powerful as Original Xbox," Says FIFA Producer

GamesIndustry has the scoop.
"It's about as powerful as the original Xbox," he said. "The video hardware unfortunately is not as powerful. There's just a couple of key things that you can do on Xbox like shaders which you just cannot do on the Wii... Overall though it's pretty much what the original Xbox was."

Eurogamer Update (Multi)

Eurogamer has posted the following:
  • FIFA 08 First Impressions (Wii)
"It's true that FIFA 08 on Wii is, on paper, a simpler game than the one on PS2 and PS3 but, as ever, mastering the Wii remote for a game of football takes time. Eventually though it's very satisfying. Compared to the recent Mario Strikers: Charged Football - developed just a few miles away from the Vancouver-based sports HQ of Electronic Arts - FIFA 08 offers complexity beyond the realms of the Mushroom Kingdom. There's the traditional skill moves which require actual wrist movements (no sock required) and measured after-touch on a shot - flick the Wii Remote up and to the left after a shot and it's heading to the top corner of the goal. Most impressive is the throw-ins which ask you to put your hands up in the air and physically throw the ball towards a team member. It feels intuitive and works well."
  • FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage Dated
"Empire Interactive will be lining up copies of FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage on shelves near you next Friday. We'd previously expected it this month, although it's the first time we've seen a specific date. The confirmation also coincides with it going gold - not to be confused with Going for Gold, a British quiz show hosted by Henry Kelly."
  • SEGA Rally for PSP
"SEGA has confirmed the new version of its filthy rally series will also be heading to PSP this September. But unlike the next-generation versions it won't be developed in-house by SEGA Racing Studios. Instead it's FlatOut team Bugbear doing the honours, although apparently there will be little difference."

Pedal to the Metal (360, PS3)

CrunchArcade has posted an article entitled, Pedal to the Metal.
"A sad yet simple fact of life is that most of us wonít ever own, let alone drive, a Ferrari or Porsche. That doesnít keep us from feeling the need for speed, and wanting to floor it while behind the wheel of a high performance auto. Racing games are almost better than shooters in pushing the limits of video game design. These racing simulations really show off the fast moving action, feature realistic detailed settings and are just the sort of gameplay that can get your heart pumping. Driving games may also be the kind of games that almost anyone can play Ė yet only a few seem to know how to master. But despite that even the mediocre titles are still somewhat fun. Fortunately this year has seen the release of several very good games. "

Other Stuff...

Well, here's to hoping the Cavs can extend this NBA season, but I somehow don't think it will happen.

Still waiting on my Mac equipment to arrive, I'm guessing today or tomorrow. Looking forward to setting it all up.

Took my daughter to the gym with me last night, they have an area where the kids can play. She had a blast in what I'd call a kids zone that is like the McDonald's kids zone on steroids. It was HUGE!

What's up with you?
  • QOTD: Are you gaming more next-gen, current-gen, PC or handheld?

Happy Birthday to the following OS'ers!

BigD (33), KAZhound (30), Williamz (29), Ger (25)
Special birthday shoutout to my mom today as well!

400 channels in HD? what is Comcast smoking, there aren't even that many channels in HD now, but somehow by 2008 they are going to have 400 HD channels on their lineup? Nice skewing of numbers since I'm sure that includes every local HD channel in every market too. But Direct TV did the same skewing with their 150 HD channel claim that has fallen through as well.

QOTD- Next gen definitely.

Nothing's going to be worse than watching the Spurs celebrate on our home floor. At least when the Tribe lost in the Series, it was on the road.

QOTD: Current gen, unfortunately. I'm planning to upgrade to 360 this summer.

QOTD - PC the most recently... but I fully expect it to swing back to the 360 in July.

What was a long and dragging week at work was broken up nicely yesterday afternoon by a party. It was a "baby shower" for one of my co-workers.

QOTD: Next gen.

QOTD: Now that some better games have been coming out I am all next-gen gamming.

QOTD: Next gen...the 360 and XBL has sucked my life away over the past two years (online gaming is a blast). I still play some "current gen" PS2 games on my PS3 and am looking for my next DS addiction.

As an aside, isn't "next gen" current generation now? You'll be hard pressed to find a regular Xbox and both Nintendo and Microsoft have stopped making first party games a long time ago for the Xbox and Cube. The only system left is the PS2, of which most are crappy licensed or multi-platform fare (though greats are still coming out like 'Odin Sphere').

THANK YOU!!! I seem to have been the only one to think of it as current gen instead of next gen...

While I agree I don't think it really matters... the name of the systems are just what people agree to call them. If enough people called them something else, that's what they'd be known as.

QOTD: Current-gen - no, I mean last-gen - well, Xbox 1. I'm planning on picking up a 360 after the price drop which should be before Christmas.

Still mostly current-gen (PS2) and a little past-gen (N64) as well. Hopeful to get into next-gen by end of the year.
