The Bigs Hands On Preview (PS3, Wii)

SportsGamer has posted their hands on preview of The Bigs.
"The Wii game, which is the first to offer motion-sensor controls of all aspects of baseball, is hit and miss. It's not a final game yet, so there's still room for improvement. The swinging is down pat, which means it's relatively easy to belt homers out of the field with the Wii Remote. The pitching with the Wii Remote is also intuitive and there's a turbo meter for perfect pitches that takes some skill. Where the game is more difficult is in the outfield. Controlling where to throw the ball is pretty hard to do with the motion-sensors. I found myself just touching the appropriate D-pad button to throw to one of the four bases instead. Whenever I tried to throw the ball with the Remote, it never went to the right base. There's the ability to build up a big play meter by pulling off double plays or striking out players, which unleashes even more arcade gameplay."

Need For Speed ProStreet Interview (Multi)

GameInformer has posted an interview with John Doyle, EA Black Box producer for Need For Speed ProStreet.
GameInformer: "What you showed us of this game, you’re doing a lot more damage than seems to have been done before. How is that working with car manufacturers? In the past a lot of the car manufacturers—if you’re using a real car, they obviously don’t want to see their cars damaged."
John Doyle: "The manufacturers have actually been fantastic. We have a strong relationship that we’ve been working for on a lot of years with the Need For Speed games. Every manufacturer in the game has completely signed off on full customization and full damage to their cars, including flipping them, rolling them and totaling them. We’re excited by it. It’s a lot of work to make sure that everyone’s on board and everyone’s OK with it. It’s a lot of travel to a lot of corporate offices, but everyone’s on board and we think it’s going to be pretty cool."

Need for Speed ProStreet First Look (Multi)

NFSUnlimited has posted their first look at Need for Speed ProStreet.
"One thing that was made completely from scratch is the game physics. The way the Need for Speed games drove from Underground to Carbon was pretty much the same – pedal to the metal with braking an unknown concept. That tactic will get you to the first turn in Pro Street. Then you'll cry over the wreckage of your car. Yes, the car handling is now much more realistic and with all the assist off, you'll find it quite challenging to drive. There's a big difference between turning the assists off or on – no assist basically means no abs and no traction control and as a consequence faster laps. If you don't end up in a cloud of smoke after a spin off of course. Smoke in Pro Street definitely looks the best in any game to date. When doing a burnout, you'll actually notice smoke coming radially out of the tyres and it will stay in the air for quite some time. Race starts should look very good, especially if you start last as you'll have a hard time seeing where to go!"

Eurogamer Update (PS2, PC)

Eurogamer has posted the following:
  • FIFA 08 Preview (PS2)
"The key difference with 08 on PS2 is the custom-designed co-op mode. It's called Be A Pro Co-Op Season and it gives you and a mate the chance to pick a team member and play with a team of PS2-controlled players. The idea is that by working together and using just one player without the ability to switch to another player, gamers will be forced to learn the importance of playing a set position. Each player can call for the ball if he's in space and there's a realistic five-a-side feel to the matches. Run around like a headless chicken in defence and you'll lose stamina and expose holes in the backline. There's set challenges within the mode, with hundreds of achievements from hitting a set score line to committing less fouls, accumulating assists and letting the PS2 take charge when necessary."
  • Football Manager Live: 25-Key Giveaway This Friday (PC)
"We'll be giving away the keys on a first come, first served basis this Friday, 8th June, at 3pm sharp. The giveaway will be cross-promoted on Eurogamers and Sports Interactive's website, so keep your eyes on us for further information."

QOTD: I'm just hoping to get a 360 in the next few months and catch up on some older games (Perfect Dark, FEAR). I'm interested to hear what's new in NBA 2k8.

QOTD: APF 2K8 and Mass Effect. And the latest hands-on articles on MOH:Airborne have got me interested in that game.

QOTD: Mainly just the 80's Guitar Hero. The NCAA hype hasn't hit me yet, I think it's because I'm going to wait and get a PS3 around the end of August and buy it then.

Hey Steve, what's the MCSE 2003 tests?

QOTD: Mass Effect (and it will be highly anticipated for a while), NCAA, and sadly, Madden...my hopes are rising, but I know they'll likely underwhelm the community again.
