Playsyde and Xboxyde Update (PS3, 360)

Playsyde and Xboxyde have posted the following:

Question of the Day

What was your most intense gaming moment ever?

I don't know, there have been so many. But there was this one time, at band camp...Nah, one time I was playing online in NFL 2K5, I was down by 3, just after the 2 minute warning, when I got the ball. After using all of my timeouts, I ended up getting a touchdown to take a 4 point lead with probably 40 seconds left. I kicked off and my opponent raced all the way down to the 1 freakin' yard line w/ probably 20 seconds left. Well, I hold him on 1st down, stuffing the inside run. On second down he goes playaction, gets sacked. He now has 1 timeout left, he needs a touchdown, but if he runs, the time will probably run out and he won't be able to get another play off. Well, he snaps the ball and rolls out, as he races to the corner of the endzone, Roy Williams knocks him out of bounds with 1 freaking second left on the INCH line, lol. On 4th down, he tries to toss it wide left and I snuff it out for the win. It was probably the most intense game I've ever played.

Playing my friend in NCAA 2004, I am Florida and he is LSU. I am up by 6 with about 30 seconds left and he has the ball at midfield with 1 timeout. He throws a deep post over the middle that is caught by Michael Clayton at the 1 yard line with 20 seconds left and he calls his final timeout. First down, he throws a slant route that is knocked down by my linebacker. Seconds down, his QB overthrows his receiver in the endzone and it flies out of bounds. Third down, with 10 second s left he runs a playaction pass to his wide open tight end in the end zone but he drops the ball!! Fourth down, 5 seconds left, he throws a ball over the middle that my linebacker tips in the air and it looks like it will fly out of the endzone incompleter, but Michael Clayton makes a diving catch in the back of the endzone for the touchdown and the lead with 1 second left. But, he kicks the ball deep with one second left, I find a seam on the right sideline and take it to the house to win the game.

QOTD:

In college, a bunch of us used to play through seasons of NCAA Football '98 for the original Playstation. And when I say a bunch, I'm talking 10 or 12 guys would each take control of a team. We'd edit the schedules to get as many head-to-head games as possible prior to the season starting.

After two seasons, I was the back-to-back champion, having never been beaten in-season or otherwise. Season 1, I used Nebraska and won the National Title. Season 2, I took North Carolina to the promised land. In Season 3, everyone was complaining about how good I was and demanded I pick a less than stellar team.

I chose East Carolina.

During this season, all of those guys discovered a way to recover an onside kick 90% of the time. They deemed it the "Beat T.J." strategy, thinking that this would be the key to giving me my first loss, ever, in this game.

After rattling off 7 or so wins to start the season, I came up against one of the guys using this technique, running with Tennessee. The game was tight, but with me trailing pretty much the whole time. Word spread fast that "T.J. was losing in NCAA", and thus, a small crowd of about 20 guys gathered in our dorm room to watch.

It came down to the fourth quarter. Even with him using this strategy and me refusing (I was a sim gamer even way back then), I was down only 1 late in the game. I drive down field, run the clock out, and set up for a game winning field goal. 20 of my friends, looking on, hoping I miss to give Brandon and the Vols a win, but more importantly, my first ever loss.

I choked. Tennesse won it by a point.

Everyone in the room went crazy like it was a real game or something. People yelling...cheering...so much so that the dorky girl living across the hall came over to tell us to shut the hell up.

But that was my most intense gaming moment...and I'm sorry to say I didn't come out on top.

To follow up on that story, I still made it to the championship game (back then in NCAA, you could do a postseason tournament instead of bowl games, so we did). I was facing my buddy Seth and the Florida State Seminoles.

I decided to come up with a counter to the on-side kick thing. I decided to hold the ball. I used the entire first half to score a TD, leading 7-0. Second half, he gets the kickoff first, but throws an interception. After I picked it off, I ran back to the 1 yard line and dove. This enabled me to run the rest of the clock out and thoroughly piss Seth off, winning the title game, 7-0.

That was the last season of that game we played...we moved on to NBA Live after that.

I'm not going to even try to top that. Wow.
