2404 has posted their review of Madden NFL 06, giving it a 9 out of 10.
"With only one NFL franchise on the market, it was reasonable to fear EA Sports would phone in this addition. Instead, gamers are rewarded with a major overhaul, crisper graphics, and a new passing system that needs more development. All in all, it's fun, addictive in a way football games haven't been recently, and worth the reduced price to pick up this edition. With the possible improvements to playbook edit-ability, and better implementation of the tacked-on create a superstar mode, and maybe more--or maybe less--commentary from John Madden, I think that Madden 07 may be one for the ages. If not, get 06. It's a hell of a lot better than what's has come before."

Madden is the only game in town with no viable competition. ESPN hands down produced a better game last year and it is still being played by thousands this year. Madden yes made some key improvements but still cannot compare to ESPN halftime show or end game analysis. So much for Madden improvements it is not worth $50.00.

I have Madden 06 for the Xbox and if the PC version is similar, I think this reviewer was wearing his EA RULES t-shirt when he wrote this article. I am enjoying Madden, but I think it is more along the lines of a 7 or 8 out of 10.

If I recall correctly, this reviewer even praised the games commentary. I shut the Madden's big mouth off after the first minute I played this game.

All that being said, EA has a good foundation to build on. I just hope they really upgrade the gameplay engine in the next-gen version because this engine has run its course. The cone vision was a nice upgrade, but everything else feels the same as it did for the last few years.
