GamerCentric has the scoop.
"Electronic Arts’ NCAA Football series has been the only college football game in town for a long time, and now its going to stay that way, at least for the next seven years. Today the company announced an exclusive six-year licensing deal with The Collegiate Licensing Company to rights to college football’s teams, stadiums, and schools."

I hope they struck some deal with it that lets them continue to use real ratings and numbers for the college players. Without that, it would seem kinda generic in my opinion. Team names and stuff go a long way, but if the players aren't appropriately presented, it kinda loses something.

The company that I work for consistently ranks 4th - 6th in the country at what we do. I don't hate the Top 3...but I do want to do everything legally in my power to prevent them from releasing a product or service similar or superior to mine.

I don't know why people are getting mad. VC wasn't doing an NCAA game anyways. It was mentioned that they are not doing one, but some folks refused to believe. Well there ya go.

ppl are pissed cause no other company can make another NCAA football game on the next gen systems except for EA.. Who knows what Sony had planned for their NCAA football game when it got back up & running again..

If EA were based in Canada they'd be struck down heavily for unfair business practices. It isn't a monopoly per se but the unfair competition practices of EA is very blatant and quite frankly detrimental to the sports gaming industry.

One of two things could happen IMO. 1) EA will put out great product and people will enjoy it. 2) This is just the beginning of the dark age for sports gaming. EA will rest on their laurels for the most part and innovation will be a thing of the past. Oh don't get me wrong they'll add new things to their games but they'll be gimmicky in nature.

That's all I have to say about this.

Also you all are making EA out to be the bad people and forget the language used by the NFL and NCAA.

The NCAA said

Quote:
"When we began our analysis of the videogame landscape, it became apparent that EA Sports was best positioned from a marketing and development perspective to maximize the sales opportunities for college football," said Pat Battle, CEO of The Collegiate Licensing Company.
These leagues are choosing EA. Notice the language in the quote above. They felt that "EA Sports was best positioned from a marketing and development perspective to maximize the sales opportunities for college football." In the end it is a you scratch my back I scratch yours situation. The NCAA chose EA just as much as EA chose the NCAA. And lastly, capitalism does nothing to prevent such moves.

So we can expect you to be a bonus character called "PdiddyPop" in a future EA game? Perhaps a full game based on you in the Leisure Suit Larry genre?

I wonder how long til they get an exclusice deal with the word "football" and the shape of the ball, and the football positions and their likenesses...then what would other companies do...not being able to use the shape of the ball, the word "football, and not having the football positions would surely run the others into the ground!
