We have just posted our MLB 2006 review. Find out what Mark Fossen has to say about it.
"Like two titans, a pair of legendary franchises continue to ratchet up their rivalry. They sign huge contracts and throw massive amounts of money around in an effort to squash their competition. Though it looks like one of these two behemoths will claim the prize year in and year out, there’s always hope that a wildcard will unseat the giants, proving that heart and brains can beat big stacks of cash."

Liked the review, just wondering Fossen if your going to vote for this game to be the Operation Sports Game of the Year why didnt it get 5/5, instead of the same score as last year.

Because though I think it's the best of these year's baseball games (unless Nintendo's effort suprises me) ... it's still very flawed. Online is really deficient, there are too many AI problems, the roster management is pretty bad, etc.

The fact it's this year's best baseball game doesn't mean it's a 5/5.

We'll be adding this scoring explanation to our review pages soon:
Quote:
While OperationSports.com grades on a five-star system, it is not meant to represent a "percentage grade".

5/5 - A rare and singular achievement in sports gaming. A "must-buy" for any serious gamer.

4/5 - An overall solid outing with few flaws. Worth purchasing for most gamers.

3/5 - A decent performance with room to improve. Fans of the sport/series will likely enjoy it, but others may wish to rent before buying.

2/5 - A disappointing effort. Rent before buying - at best.

1/5 - A poor game with significant flaws. Only for the very brave, very patient, or obscenely wealthy.

nice rewview Fossen. I have seen a little bit of questionable managment AI to but the gameplay is still very fun.

From the review, about having to control defensive players in Career Mode while pitching:

"Or as a pitcher, it would be more exciting and realistic to be stuck in the position of knowing you've given up a potential hit, and praying that your teammates in the field bail you out. "

I thought you could set up auto fielding and auto throwing and the like?

True - you probably could set up enough options to get close to that .... but it's not an inherent part of Career mode. I tend to review games "out of the box", not as "can I configure the game to do X".

Also, it's an imperfect solution. For example - in my suggestion - I wouldn't want my pitcher Auto-Fielding or Auto-Throwing on balls hit back to the mound. I wan't an option where everyone but me would Auto-Field and Auto-Throw.

Great review!

you echo a lot of the same feelings I have about the game...

I think the audio deserves more credit than it's been getting
especially when it comes to the crowd in different ball parks...
I really like the way that if you are in Boston all the hecklers have a New England accent and if you play in Atlanta they have a southern drawl...

it's a little thing that adds a lot... it helps to drive the atmosphere and suspend
the disbelief that you are actually playing in one of these ballparks.

although I am still hoping they add the tomahawk chop to Atlanta next year

You didn't mention the manage only mode graphical mode is totally blown with no pitcher changing for the other team and the computer AI overriding some of YOUR decisions...........for guy that like the manage only option, there's always next year.

Good review. How does MLB 2006 compare to MLB 2K5 and MVP '05.

I'm really curious because I love MVP. I don't know if I'll need a game next year, but it would be good to know for future reference.

There's a lot I didn't mention, both good and bad. There's only so long a review should be ...

what a pity... I petition to make it longer.
