Rockets coach Kevin McHale giving instructions to his young team against the Detroit PistonsAuburn Hills, Michigan- One word could be used to describe the 2012-13 version of the Houston Rockets, and that word is young. Houston opened the new campaign with a 89-76 win over the Detroit Pistons. The game was nip and tuck through 3 and a half quarters, until the Rockets perseverance on the road prevailed. When questioning coach Kevin McHale about the performance, he offered up, "I've been preaching to our young guys to be accountable and play defensive basketball. If you can keep your opponent in front of you, and play hard for 48 minutes, anything can happen in the NBA." McHale also said he was proud of his young guys for not shrinking in the spotlight, despite less than desirable performances from some of the young guys.
The Rockets were led by Donatas Motiejunas, who put 22 points and 9 rebounds in the win. In a losing effort, veteran forward Corey Magette led the Pistons with 20. The young Rockets continue their fun on the road with a trip to Toronto to take on former Rocket Kyle Lowry and the Raptors. As usual, us here at the Chronicle will have all the Rockets coverage you need!

HoopsHype has learned that the new GM of the Houston Rockets is possibly looking to unload Kevin Martin. When the new GM for the Rockets was asked, he replied, "We are always evaluating ways to make our team better, whether that includes any plans in trading Kevin Martin cannot be discussed at this time." Our sources tell us that the Rockets are looking to unload Martin at the right price though, it is no secret that the Rockets are high on Jeremy Lamb and this could be a way to make room for him in the starting lineup. While we must stress nothing is imminent, it is pretty safe to say, that Kevin Martin's time as a Rocket could be running out. Make sure to follow HoopsHype on twitter @hoopshype.
