Great t.v. shows from "back then"
Posted on December 9, 2008 at 04:55 PM.
We wouldn't miss "The Honeymooners". It first came on in 1951, I would have only been five, but I remember the shows later on. They were all rated "G", no crotch jokes, no breast jokes, no sex, no boobs (and I'm a boob man), no drug references. I really don't know how we found things to laugh at back then (just kidding).

Westerns were BIG. Paladin, "Have Gun Will Travel", a hired gunman (good guy) was a must watch. Others were "Maverick", "Cheyenne", "Bronco Lane", "Sugarfoot", "Lawman", "Rawhide","The Cisco Kid", "The Lone Ranger" and more.

Most of the time the bad buys got "wounded", shot in the shoulder, or the gun shot out of his hand. Never saw blood.

And one of my favorites, with his buntline special, a revolver with a 16" long barrel.

Another fave.....The Cisco Kid....The show would always end when Cisco would turn to his sidekick, Pancho, and say "ooooh, Pancho" and he'd reply, "ooooh, Cisco".

There aren't too many shows I would rank ahead of "The Andy Griffith Show," no matter the time period. Yeah, some of the episodes were cheesy, but it was funny and Barney Fife is one of the greatest characters ever.

And, of course, The Lone Ranger couldn't be missed. Beautiful horse, name was Silver.

I loved Flipper, Lassie, I dream of Genie (/drool), and Green Acres as a kid!!!

Yes, Barbara Eden was really hot and the show actually got letters because of her (at the time) revealing costume. They guys didn't mind it though. Andy Griffith was fabulous. Always a good message and Don Knotts was at his best.

She maintained her good looks through out life.

My Dad is on a big Western kick for some reason (he grew up with all the westerns as a kid, so I think he's just wanting to go back to that). Anyway, I was looking for westerns on Amazon and came across a Steve McQueen TV series called Wanted: Dead or Alive. It intrigued me because of Steve McQueen as the lead role since I'm a huge Steve fan and think he's the King of Cool. I got the first season for him for Christmas and I'll have to check it out myself then too.

Anyway, the earliest show I can think of that I will go out of my way to watch is M*A*S*H. I Love Lucy is pretty funny, even today.

Yep, I Love Lucy, like The Honeymooners, how they got such great laughs without one reference to a sex gland is beyond me, I'm kidding.
Wanted Dead or Alive was a good show.
Here's Superman, actor George Reeves, who later committed suicide overdosing on sleeping pills.

Check out McQueens sidearm. It's a lever action rifle cut down to fit in a holster. I had forgotten about that.

Of course, how could I forget Gunsmoke with James Arness. If you listen carefully to the intro he actually gets off the "second" shot. Lucky for him the bad guy was a bad aim. This was a long running show.

Barbara Eden was smoking hot in I Dream of Jeannie.

Another great show "The Rifelman" with Chuck Conners, ex-major league baseball player. Gotta love that lever action rifle.

"COMBAT", from 1962-67. Great show.
