Lt. Winters (later to have battlefield commission to Major) is the first real vet talking at the end of the intro. An amazing story, have read his book. Definitely part of our greatest generation.
Loved the music in this series also.

The first hour of "Full Metal Jacket". Never get tired of watching the Gunny in action. Brings back a lot of memories. Scared ****less during basic training. Man, memories.

More memories from "Full Metal Jacket". I guess I enjoyed it so much because I was so out of shape when I went in. I got ribbed pretty mercilessly by the D.I.s. All for the better. I couldn't do the monkey bars at the beginning of basic, caught pneumonia, went it the hospital, and almost got sent back to another training brigade.

Absolutely loved Ryan and FMJ. I never did sit down and watch Band of Brothers like I planned to, maybe I'll do that soon. One of my favorites is Three Kings. It's not somber like the ones listed but I enjoyed it alot. So much in fact that I wanted my own military experienced and signed up.
On the other side of the coin Black Hawk Down was another one that quickly rose to the top as one of my favorites when it was released.

I remember watching Black Hawk Down in the Theatres back in 2002? It's a great movie... I don't even think I've watched since the first time I saw it...been thinking about picking it up on bluray

Yeah, Three Kings was well done, enjoyed that one. Have it and have watched it a few times. Enjoy the cinematography (which means a lot in movies)
Black Hawk Down was excellent and I've probably watched it four times, was actually thinking of popping it in the other day. The two rescue guys (who tried to save the one downed chopper) actually won the Medal of Honor for their heroism. A suicide mission, actually.

Sorry, but 3 Kings was not good at all IMO. I remember renting it on DVD when it first came out. Wife was at work, and ready to just chill and watch an awesome movie. Fail. I still want my 3 hours back. Don't forget Glory. Great war movie!

Yes, "Glory" was outstanding. Morgan Freeman is one of my all time favorite actors.
