The highly anticipated home/handheld hybrid Nintendo Switch will release on March 3rd for $300, eventually require a paid subscription for online play, and expanding storage will a be a practical necessity by adding on a separately purchased SDXC memory card. Switch has a dismal launch lineup outside of the new Zelda, while sports games look to be a ways off with FIFA and NBA 2K18 both officially in development but not releasing until later in the year.

Rich Grisham and T.J. Lauerman join host Bryan Wiedey on a new Press Row Podcast in reacting to Nintendo’s reveal event. In terms of pricing where does the Switch stand compared to Xbox One and PS4? Should sports games on Switch be unique experiences or offer what are essentially ports from those other systems? Can sports games survive on a Nintendo platform when they rely so heavily on post-release digital revenue?

There’s a lot to be intrigued by out of the Nintendo Switch but still many more questions to be answered about its viability particularly as it relates the sports gaming genre.

In recent years, we’ve seen each sports title’s marketing department build a lot of buzz around the unveiling of player ratings in the buildup to release day. Fans debate these ratings on social media, and even players are seen publicly lobbying for better ratings on ESPN and Twitter.

Among all the hype emerges a simple but important question: how accurate are these ratings?

In a recent front page poll on Operation Sports, nearly 1000 sports gamers weighed in and the results were close to split: a little over half think ratings are either “very accurate” or “more good than bad”; a little less than half say they are “mixed” or “inaccurate more than accurate.”

Both sides seem to have valid arguments.

Codemasters has just announced plans to add PlayStation VR support to DiRT Rally in the coming weeks, giving you a fully immersive off-road experience, with the upgraded game supporting every car, every route and every discipline within DiRT Rally. Check out the trailer here.

The update will also enable a game-changing second player to join in on the fun. Using a DUALSHOCK 4 controller, the second player will take the on the role of co-driver – using the social screen to understand when to send calls to the driver using the DUALSHOCK 4 buttons and touchpad. Making those calls at the right time will be the difference between the driver hearing the correct information at the right time, so it's crucial that this is executed properly.

The official release date and pricing of the DLC has not been confirmed yet.

HB Studios have released The Golf Club VR patch 1.07, check out the full details below. Currently the game is only available on PC via Steam, compatible with the HTC Vive.

Quote:
The past two weeks we have been putting a lot of focus on the gameplay physics and club tuning based on community feedback. With this update you’re going to see a big difference in the way the ball lands and rolls on the greens. We have addressed the issue of the ball shooting backwards with back spin and stopping abruptly, you should also see better bounces. We have also made individual tuning to each club for Casual and Amateur difficulties.

Bug Fixes
  • Addressed clipping issues with the range finder.
  • Addressed crashes that were reported by users.
  • Addressed issues progressing through the tutorial.
  • Replaced missing textures so there should be no more pink boxes.
Additional Courses
With this update we have started to bring all The Golf Club 1 courses over to The Golf Club VR. This is a long process and over the next several hours you will continue to see new courses be populated to the game. At the time of this update there should be at least a few thousand new ones to keep you busy for a while. Once this update is fully completed we will be setting up to pull any new courses from The Golf Club 1 in to The Golf Club VR. At that point, if you own the original game you will be able to create your own courses then play them in VR.
