More than likely they're holding out for more money.

I really don't think EA would've taken this public unless they thought there was a very strong chance of this tactic working.

Looks like FIFA and NHL are the only sports games I'll play from now on.

Re: EA Proposes to Acquire Take-Two Interactive Software

The only thing I would worry about is the future of Sports games.

Other than that the other games like Bioshock and GTA...also people are forgetting about Firaxis and Civilization...but I don't see this as a move that is going to KILL gaming or whatever.

Some of those games might get to have a larger budget which is a good thing for those franchises and EA doesn't rush all of its games out (Look at Spore, if you follow the development EA could have rushed that out yet gave Maxis the time to make it better)

I think they would give the same courtesy they give to Maxis to Rockstar and Irrational because they know what those teams are capable of.

I do worry about Sports games as who knows what happens after this.

2K acquired the Irrational guys last year for Bioshock and nothing with the team changed at all. I'm pretty sure EA will keep all those developers intact.

I agree the sports games would be gone, but EA wouldn't change around anything with hit games like GTA, Mass Effect, and Bioshock.
Theoretically, that sounds correct. However, I think you fail to realize that EA has a huge impact on how these developers make games. Take "Aki" for instance. They are the creaters of the N64 wrestling games. They were fun, balanced, and provided great gameplay with great simulation (if I can say that about wrestling) type gameplay. EA aquired "Aki" to make the Def Jam wrestling games. These games were more arcade, lacked balance, and lacked defensive ability. This is an EA gimmick that they call "fun", and many people were disappointed in how "Aki" made these games.

EA has a strict control on the outcome of how games are made. They are a casual gamers publisher. Casual games basically, to me, means "pick up and play", and they typically lack a skill factor when playing. This is supposed to be "fun", but it's not fun for me, and it takes away from how videogames used to be. Lets look at "Maxis", the makers of "The Sims" and "Simcity". Simcity used to be a hardcore game that required patience and the ability to think. Since EA has aquired this team, EA's releases on both of these games has made the games more shallow and too easy for fans of the series before. The new Simcity game requires no thought or skill to build the cities, and it completely lost all the original appeal that made it great to begin with.

Don't fool yourself into thinking that EA as a publisher will have no influence.

Much ado about nothing roght now since TT has already rejected this. This is similar to the microsoft/yahoo attempted merger. EA is taking it public because they were rejected already.

I honestly don't even care what this will do to gaming.

All I know is that EA is a powerhouse and if they wanted to do this there is nothing I could do about it.

More power to them because if I was in the same situation I'd do everything they've done - albeit be a little nicer about it.

Much like a jilted lover

I love proclaiming doom and gloom as much as the next guy, but its best to wait this one out.

Sounded like they were taking it public to share their interests to the other shareholders of Take 2.

They aren't sharing this information to just let people know. They are doing it as a last attempt to let every shareholder know the "benefits' of being acquired by EA.

It's a good strategy.

Most companies do that when their offer is rejected and it rarely works. MS tried it a few weeks ago with Yahoo's shareholders and it hasnt changed.
