EA just really tried to exploit the series (Sims) and they dubbed it down with a couple of off releases (like The Urbz), which was even more shallow. I don't see GTA being dubbed down, but I would forsee exploitation of the series.
Yeah I get what your saying now about the Sims with those silly spinoffs, but IMO as I still play the Sims 2 to this day the EPs and the game are still great to me. I love Maxis games besides all of the silly spinoffs like Urbz and Sims Stories and maybe Mysims as I haven't even played that one and don't plan to. I feel some of the EPs add a lot to the game and if they never made them I probably wouldn't care for the game any more.

I get what your saying about Urbz and stuff, but I think EA just wanted to try and get the Sims out there for Consoles and make a formula that tried to appeal to console gamers.

On AKI I loved the N64 games like No Mercy and Wrestlemania 2000, IMO though I don't think the lack of defense was a product of EA, I just feel that it was a development design and who they tried to develop it for.

On Simcity I still love that series, I know Will Wright though since I love verything he creates and I read a lot of his interviews and he always talks about making a game that appeals to a LARGE crowd. So I don't think it is EAs doing but Wright's as he wants to make games that appeals to everyone and games that last a long time.

I'm fairly certain you are correct.

Standard Oil was a monopoly, this is not. You have to stop people from making sports games, EA is not forcing people to stop making sports games. Essentially you can buy most anything but you can't make it so others can't make a sports game...Now EA might get the handle on authentic sports games, but others can still make them.

At least that is how I perceive it to be.

Yea I think it is important to remember that this buyout was proposed and rejected by the leader of the board of directors at TT. This is John Riccitiello putting pressure on Strauss Zelnick now by allowing the rest of the board and shareholders to see this. If he's strong in his resolve and clear with why he didn't accept then TT will continue to live on another day.

And plus even after we don't know what would happen with the sports games.
Thank you for being a voice of reason, Chase....

sure, it would suck to lose TT and 2k games...obviously. Yet it isn't a monopoly at all. This is just EA giving info to TT shareholders about a deal that was rejected. If it really isn't worth it, the shareholders will agree with the board's decision. If it's too good to pass up, then EA will probably buy them.

Just drives me f'n nuts when people whine and whine about monopolies when they have no f'n clue what they're talking about. Just because you don't like something doesn't make it illegal.

I believe all the games will stay the same but EA would just get the profit off of them.
They aren't buying 2ksports they're buying the publisher maybe they'll use 2k's engine in Live it's better than them getting the getting the NBA liscense, because 2ksports could still make sports games
you must be joking were talking about greedy dirty, EA who is awful at making games.. I thought it was funny our hardworking game-focused managment team lol they are crazy atleast make your main game half way decent (Madden) that game is awful words can not even say lol but seriously they are full of it lol

Re: EA Proposes to Acquire Take-Two Interactive Software

I think people are overreacting, really.

We're basing the hate on EA because of their Live and Madden series. That's two games out of a collection of releases that people happen to enjoy.

I'm not sure if Take 2 could honestly survive without someone buying them out. EA has the money to do so. They are just taking advantage of a perfect opportunity in their eyes.

I just wouldn't get all upset about this based on two games that only half of the members in this community do not like. There seems to be a lot of people that enjoy playing Madden and Live and they even post here regularly. So are they less sim/sports fans than the rest of the board members?

I think EA does have a factor in this, as they are very "casual friendly". Of course Wright isn't going to say anything against their publisher, but I don't think he would ever mean for Simcity to be displayed in such a shallow fashion on his own. There's too much coincedence that EA consistently produces casual "pick up and play" games, and that many dvelopers that EA has bought out, who used to make more hardcore efforts, ceased doing so after they were owned by EA. I do think EA has a huge influence on how their games pan out, but that is my opinion.

Re: EA Proposes to Acquire Take-Two Interactive Software

Also I think EA should allow 2k Sports to live on and make their games to compete with EA sports.

They are still getting the money from both games and at least it would make the quality of both games better...and also some people (like me) would buy both bball games as I do every year. So instead of getting 60 buck off of me they could get 120 because I usually end up buying both because...I don't know I just do it to see which is better. But I know I am not the only one who does this.

Re: EA Proposes to Acquire Take-Two Interactive Software

I know this is a pretty unpopular opinion, but I see this deal as having a lot of great potential.

New ideas from different developers would be a very good thing. If EA and 2K dev's are able to work together and combine the best of both games, almost every sports title would benefit from this deal.

Madden and NCAA + All-Pro Football
NBA Live + NBA 2K
March Madness + College Hoops
MVP Baseball + MLB 2K
NHL + NHL 2K

MLB the Show would not be affected, unless EA acquired the exclusive license. FIFA wouldn't be affected either.

Non-sports titles like Bioshock, GTA, etc. would be benefited. EA is not going to stop making them--they are not stupid. These games bring in a ton of money. And their developers would not get replaced--it would just be a change in ownership to a company with more marketing power.

Well if EA is smart they realize that 2K has a superior basketball game and will simply dump Live and March Madness and use this engine.

Then again, EA isn't smart.

That would be nice. It would be annoying to see an EA logo on the box though, and I don't like giving my money to the company. I've had a strong dislike of EA since the Saturn days for several reasons.

Re: EA Proposes to Acquire Take-Two Interactive Software

This is a tragedy. I'm betting it goes through. EA is just buying up every developer in the business. Not good at all.
