EA aquired "Aki" to make the Def Jam wrestling games. These games were more arcade, lacked balance, and lacked defensive ability. This is an EA gimmick that they call "fun", and many people were disappointed in how "Aki" made these games.

EA has a strict control on the outcome of how games are made. They are a casual gamers publisher. Casual games basically, to me, means "pick up and play", and they typically lack a skill factor when playing. This is supposed to be "fun", but it's not fun for me, and it takes away from how videogames used to be. Lets look at "Maxis", the makers of "The Sims" and "Simcity". Simcity used to be a hardcore game that required patience and the ability to think. Since EA has aquired this team, EA's releases on both of these games has made the games more shallow and too easy for fans of the series before. The new Simcity game requires no thought or skill to build the cities, and it completely lost all the original appeal that made it great to begin with.

Don't fool yourself into thinking that EA as a publisher will have no influence.
Whatchu talkin bout Willis? I don't know how many people were disappointed as you say about the Def Jam series, the only thing they were disappointed about was that AKI doesn't make them no more.

Also you saying the Sims is more shallow compared to the Sims 2....um....what? The Sims has ALWAYS been pick up and play...

In fact nearly EVERY Maxis is game is for casual gamers because Will Wright designs it as so, yet they are still really deep games that people still play today...ESPECAILLY the Sims 2 so I don't know what you are getting at with this.

Also GTA is also a pick-up-play game. I know many people that get enjoyment out of doing no missions and causing havoc. So I don't see how EA could dumb that down any further.

I outright believe that people who were big fans of the N64 games and knew that the same team made the Def Jam series, that they were disappointed with the overall shallow gameplay and lack of defensive ability. I know of quite a few people. Also, I was speaking more on Simcity than Sims. EA just really tried to exploit the series (Sims) and they dubbed it down with a couple of off releases (like The Urbz), which was even more shallow. I don't see GTA being dubbed down, but I would forsee exploitation of the series. People who liked the Def Jam games hardly knew of the developer and/or weren't that into wrestling games to begin with. To me, it was shallow and way too easy. It required very little skill or ability to play. Aki's previous work was a much more skilled driven game IMO. That's my view of "dubbing down"...basically so Joe Moron can play as good as anyone else.

Um no....EA announced that they've extended their deal with the NFL another 3 years.
I believe it goes until the 2012/2013 season.

No big surprise. Take-Two has been struggling as a company for a long time now. Eventually someone is going to buy them out...just a matter of who?

I don't think it'll be the end of the 2k series

EA just would make money off Live and 2k more money for them.
I believe all the games will stay the same but EA would just get the profit off of them.
They aren't buying 2ksports they're buying the publisher maybe they'll use 2k's engine in Live it's better than them getting the getting the NBA liscense, because 2ksports could still make sports games

In my opinion, by dropping the career development and putting the primary focus on social interaction with a mechanic that was as shallow as Fable's or Oblivian's. It felt like it lacked in depth, but it was focused more on casual console gamers than the other offerings.

Re: EA Proposes to Acquire Take-Two Interactive Software

Just last year, TTWO was trading at around $24 and I won't be surprised to see them approach that value when GTA releases- I think the release of this game is going to be massive. I think the new leadership has started to rectify the problems of the past regime and my gut is the shareholders won't accept this like the Yahoo shareholders did. After San Andreas released, the stocks rose about 10 dollars over the next few months until the Hot Coffee stuff led to the tortuous collapse that we all know about (among other braindead decisions by the previous CEO of TTWO).
