FIFA 10 or PES 2010?

I've played both demo's and honestly I like FIFA 10 more as PES 2010 just feels a bit too "arcady" to me. However I am curious. Is PES 2010 just really eye candy with the graphics and player models and that is why some people love it? To me after playing FIFA 09, the depth of Manager Mode as well as BAP mode make me love the FIFA series.

What are the pro's and con's of BOTH games in your eyes?

Thanks for your time. What are your opinions gentlemen?

Wow, someone actually calling PES "eye candy," never thought I'd see the day. I think you have to go back several years to understand why people "love" the PES/WE series. (Disclaimer: I started playing PES/WE with WE 8: International (PES 4) on the Xbox). Back then, FIFA was not the franchise it is today. Madden was still EA's workhorse, and they didn't give FIFA the attention it's worldwide audience deserved. PES was the only game in town if you wanted a realistic brand of football. Master League was what today's Manager Mode was built to emulate. Then EA decided to pour time and money into FIFA and PES was stagnant (especially in this generation of consoles, I don't know what resource they are lacking, but they haven't been able to keep up). This round seems to be first where both games are on equal ground, PES's graphics finally catching up, and FIFA's Manager Mode perhaps surpassing PES.

My opinion: I loved FIFA 09 for the manager mode...if FIFA 10 hasn't broken it beyond salvage (remains to be seen if you read the UK forums), then I will love FIFA 10. Gameplay-wise, I like the play on the pitch a little bit better in PES, so it'll will be a Gamerang rental that I'm hoping I'll end up buying (because I do like the gameplay better).

For me WE9:I was the best soccer game I played at the time. It had everything and it was fun.

Then FIFA changed directions and WE changed direction but that was the wrong direction.

PES has not had any major upgades in years to its features or master league. It secured a few licenses away from EA, but here again, they really don't add much to the game.

I play offline mostly and for me I want real leagues so that's why I've always been attracted to FIFA. I think PES has a lot to prove this year.

Curious as to what you mean by "broken it beyond salvage". Are you referring to the FORM being broken which is being fixed via patch for US release?

Re: FIFA 10 or PES 2010?

I played 30 years of WE9 Master League. The game has not changed much since that title. Graphically, I'd only say the faces are better. However, gameplay wise, I prefer the passing, shooting, and dribbling in FIFA. It allows me to play any style of play. Although the majority of players play pinball football regardless of title, I'd recommend sitting down with FIFA because EA Canada has arguably created the best sports game I've ever played. The controls continue to be improved and the R stick, wow, anyone who loves football understands the possibilities. Most players do not utilize it due to a lack of stick skills. Think Madden vision cone. Sadness . . .

Regarding manager modes in both titles, they're both terrible. However, I prefer depth and neither title offers much in this regard. If that is what you're looking for, I'd recommend Football Manager. If either title offered online manager modes or something similar to NCAA, I'd be all for it. Since neither does, I play online exclusively (clubs and heads up). Good luck.

I have not seen a definitive statement from EA saying that the form issue will be fixed via patch before/for the US release. Can you provide a link to something official from EA on that issue?

Aside from that, just looking at the UK forums, there seem to be many issues. Not the least of which is the freezing people are experiencing, some when trying to load their MM saves. Then there is the "night match" bug, where most matches are played at night (that one won't stop me from playing, but unrealistic nonetheless). Then there are the numerous issues people are having with transfers (not being able to make transfers, having their club budget go hugely negative after a season and then transfers not working, players being loaned out and then sold by the loaned-to club, newly signed players vanish after a game or two). Then there are the issues with the Assistant manager messing up your lineup before every match (again, probably won't keep me from playing, but still stupid). Anyway, I'm not going to go on, but you get my point (here's a list someone has compiled if you're interested, though it's not all MM issues: http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/f...l#post11539748). I'll be the first one to say take it all with a grain of salt, but at some point you reach a critical mass where you can't overlook all the issues they're bringing up.

I want it to be good, heck, at this point I'm just hoping for playable...but it took EA a while to patch 09 up to the point that it didn't freeze all the time on my 360, so at the least, I'm expecting the same for 10.

Re: FIFA 10 or PES 2010?

Did anyone think the PES demo was a little too fast? The players and ball moved all over the place at what I felt was unrealistic. I did the download on the PS3 and played the FIFA demo on the 360.
Still not sure what to think about either.

Re: FIFA 10 or PES 2010?

I appreciate what both games have to offer, but FIFA 10, to me, has reached a level close to perfection. I'll never be able to play a football game that does not have 360 dribbling again. And not only that, but the physics and player interactions found in FIFA are far beyond its time. In fact, they are so good I'd go as far as calling them next gen, as they truly surpass everything that has ever been produced for this current generation of consoles, as far as sports games go.

What's even more shocking is that I don't even have the full game yet, I'm merely commenting on what the demo showed me. FIFA 10 earns my vote for sports game of the year, no doubt.

Edit: Of course, I'm assuming MM will be fixed when I say the above.
