Soccer Thread (Where you play, what you play, etc)

At the moment I'm not playing anywhere (and I haven't for like 2 months) but I'm starting indoor again with my coed team in 2 weeks. Our team is consistently one of the better teams, and we won the league once and went undefeated another time before losing in the first round of the playoffs (our 2 really good girls had college soccer and couldn't play).

I'll probably suck for about 2 games, but it'll still be awesome.

I play in Boston in a futsol league. We play a 1-2-1 and I'm normally the back 1.

Ah, I forgot to include that. We don't really have a set formation, but I'm usually the forward.

My specialty is backheels, I'm like Cuathemoc Blanco without the gut.

Unfortunately had to give up the game whilst in high school. Broke my right ankle 4 times in the span of 6 years. I played mostly on the right flank and sometimes slotted in just behind the front 2 when we reverted to a 4-3-1-2 formation.

damn 4 times in 6 years, sorry GV. 4-3-1-2 is a good formation if you have some decent post up strikers, I remember in my old college we played against a nebraska team that used that formation and just had the speediest forwards ever - long ball galore.

Good idea on the thread Acid.

Oh, bout me. At the moment I'm on two indoor teams, Tuesday men's (top div) and Wed coed (lowest div). Like to think of myself as the ambassador to soccer for my co-ed team as my girlfriend, co-worker and his wife, and another friend all have not played before - but needed the exercise, so voila - here they are almost a year later and we have been champions once.

Also play on an outdoor coed game, last game was today, won 5-0, scored 4 of em

Re: Soccer Thread (Where you play, what you play, etc)

Used to play HS and club. In HS I was the defensive mid in a 4-1-4-1, and on club I was on the right flank in a 4-4-2. Basically all I could do was pass/cross and take free kicks, so I'm not really sure why I ever was playing in the middle at all. My HS coach was an idiot.

For now, I don't really play much unless its just a pick up game. We had intramural tryouts (explain that one), and I didn't even go because I sold all my soccer stuff a couple years ago. I may join a futsol team though for the winter since I don't play hockey anymore.

Right now, just playing indoor as the fields won't be ready again until the spring.

We play a 2-1-2. I usually play as one of the 2 in the back, but we get forward often and it looks like a 1-1-3 a lot.

Re: Soccer Thread (Where you play, what you play, etc)

good lord, I miss playing...

didn't play much after undergrad intramurals and pick-ups...tried to join a rec-league a couple of summers ago, and was just vexed. A little out-of-shape, and 120 degree heat didn't help. Took a while to shake the rust, but just as soon as it was falling off, so too did the time that I had...I was in grad school.

the summer leage was 6v6 (plus goalies) and I am/was more suited to 11v11...way too much running in 6v6...it was also a little disappointing as they played with full size goals, which seemed a bit silly for 6v6...

it didn't help that some of the guys on the team i was practicing with were kinda jackasses. made slights about my wearing sunscreen...so i am a skin-cancer risk, **** off...

too bad, too...i love the game and used to be pretty good...could still put great touch on long passes and corners...now i have a ruptured disc in my back...so, no more sports ever...not even softball.

Never got to play any organized Soccer after 6th grade because I played football. I played some indoor last year in Louisville, hopefully I can find somewhere to play now that I'm here in Dallas.

How was that indoor place in Louisville? I'm considering playing again and would like to know your thoughts on the facilities, the people who ran it, as well as the people who played. I'm looking to start playing the the over 30 league that they have.
