PES Developer Disses FIFA

Boomtown has the scoop.

Quote:
"Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer team leader Jon Murphy says EA Sports has a long way to go before FIFA can challenge his game.

Murphy claims that FIFA still hasn't matched the gameplay of Pro Evolution Soccer.

"It is all very well for EA to say that FIFA is making great strides, but general opinion suggests that they still have a long way to go before they can match the intuitive and absorbing gameplay of Pro Evolution Soccer," Murphy told MCV."

I think people will disagree.

I played a decent amount of both and Fifa is very close. Especially with regards to the speed of play.

Not a soccer expert on this, but I would hope this was against Konami's upper-tier's best wishes. Not a very wise thing to say about your competition when it is scoring relatively high among critics...even compared to their own game. I wonder what the general opinion he speaks of is? Metacritic shows both companies efforts last year were very close in how they were scored, from the 78-82 range. Not a smart thing to say at all, but I would imagine there is definitely a little bit of truth in what he is saying...maybe just a smidge?

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT.

Unless FIFA has slowed down this year, I agree with him. The problem FIFA has that I can see is there does not seem to be a slow pace to game at all. Plus the controls are not 100% responsive. Yes, a move will come out but in terms of passing it really needs work.

It's good enough to keep me playing, but still.

Woah? Did you play 08?

Everyone and their grandmothers knew Fifa had a much better game pace than PES.

Well, I've played FIFA and UEFA this year, not PES. Comparing FIFA to the Winning Eleven of old and the pace is much better with W11.

Re: PES Developer Disses FIFA

Every year people say FIFA is as close as ever to WE and every year they are wrong.

Even looking at WE2008, which was crap, against FIFA08, WE2008 plays so much smoother and more responsively. FIFA has been getting better but, IMO, it still has a long way to go before it can match WE for gameplay.

The number one problem that I've always had with FIFA (and it is STILL there) is that the movement and reaction of your players is very jerky and you never feel that you have full control over them. How many times have you seen the CPU run down the wings and hit a cross into the box - you're controlling a defender and you see the flight of the ball and think "okay, I can get to this and clear it out" - but your defender WONT MOVE and the CPU striker does some goofy looking touch around you and puts it top corner? Or, just as often, you are challenging for a header in the box and have no control over whether you win the header or not? It's already been pre-determined for you.

I'll definitely be checking out FIFA this year but from the videos it looks like the same old stuff.

(don't even get me started on the stretching of player's names on the backs of uniforms. This was acceptable in the first or second try at next-gen graphics but still??? huge eyesore for me).

Download the FIFA 09 Demo and get back to us on the responsiveness issue.

The pace is a little quick but, when you get the full game there is an option to slow it down.

Man, I'm as big of a PES/WE fan boy there is but, many of your comments are way off base.

Jerky players? Are you serious? PES/WE is the king of this because the players STILL...STILL move in only eight directions.

The problems that you are mentioning in the box with pre determined results is completely bogus and I think most of the players in this forum will agree. For 09 the "in the box" play is even better than in 08. I have never had a problem with my defender not moving.

"From the looks of the videos...same old stuff"....Look again and get back to us. Same for the responsiveness.
