Robinho getting blasted

Link

Quote:
Brazilian football legend Pele has expressed his disappointment in Robinho, saying he "needs counselling", after the young striker signed for Manchester City on a lucrative contract.

Pele stated that Chelsea, who was originally going to be Robinho's new club, should be happy the 24-year-old went elsewhere.

Pele said: "Chelsea are lucky. This boy needs some serious counselling. In my view he has been badly advised."

Robinho's move from Real Madrid to City has not been well received by his fellow Brazilians.

Both Pele and Robinho started their careers at Santos in Brazil.

The president of Santos, Marcelo Teixera said: "This is one of the most disgraceful episodes in Brazilian football.

"He is a player who is an idol to children, an example. But he has not acted like one."

And Santos general manager, Jose Fernandos, added: "We are ashamed at having produced such a player."
Pretty ridiculous statements, IMO.

I agree that the statements are ridiculous. The Robinho situation is just another result of the eff'd up transfer system in place. As long as clubs can keep approaching players and luring them away with huge salaries, situations like this are going to keep happening.

I don't understand this either...so it'd be fine for Chelsea to blow a ton of cash on him, but when he goes to City he's a disgrace? Just doesn't add up to me.

I much prefer a free market as it is, rather than major restrictions on player movements. What's wrong with a player moving because of huge contracts? All of us are in whatever sort of business to make as much money as possible, and the same goes for footballers...I see no wrong in it.

Their statements though are childish at best, and I think it's the guys at Santos, and Pele that need to have their head examined. Robinho did nothing wrong...

Re: Robinho getting blasted

I don't think he is catching heat because he went to Manchester City for a ton of money. I think it has more to do with how he went about getting the transfer. If all the reports are true, he basically threw a temper tantrum and cried (literally) in his meeting with Calderon.

Even with all that, I will agree that the statements are pretty harsh.

Re: Robinho getting blasted

Wasn't Pele chiming in with comments on Ronaldo's situation as well?

Geez, you'd think he killed a person or something. All he did was handle what was to him an unfavorable position in what some would consider an immature and inappropriate manner. Sounds like a rather common happening in the world today...

Man I'd be insulted too. He was used as Calderon's bait to get Cristiano over there in Spain. He was getting only around 3 mil, he is wayy better than that. He is going to light the EPL up. Name me 3 better winger/strikers. Messi,C.Ronaldo,Ribery,..?????

It seems Robinho himself thought he joined Chelsea

Looking at the talent at the wing position makes be realize how thin it really is, and maybe Robinho is among the best of the bunch, but that still doesn't make him not a total wanker.

CR7 (no brainer, best in the world)-I agree

Messi (produces results, unlike Robinho)-is better, but what results? Robinho has helped Madrid win to League titles, and was the best player on his team last year before his injury. Also was the key player in Copa America when a no name Brazil beat Tevez,Riquelme, and MESSI in the Final.

Ribery (when fit, absolutely yes over Robinho)-Agree, better winger, but not combination player.

Ricardo Quaresma- Playing in a much weaker division, has not proven anything on big stages besides a couple of champions league goals.

Nani- not yet, maybe in the future

Joe Cole (maybe not a winger persay, but play in a attacking role & can/does play wide)-No english player is close to Robinho, I really like Cole, but no way.
